Involve Your Children in Scrapbooking

With scrapbooking as perhaps one of my top three most favorite things to do, it is only natural that I wish to share that hobby with my friends and family. And why not get my children involved as soon as possible? How do you get your children interested in scrapbooking? Set Limits – Guide Don’t just open up your scrapbook room and tell them to use whatever they want. This can overwhelm them and make them feel as if they aren’t capable of making decisions. Perhaps putting together a few items in a kit and allowing them to choose which … Continue reading

Scrapbooking Week in Review For April 14-20, 2008

With the sunshine replacing many of the rainy days we have been having, I have been trying to enjoy the weather whenever I can. This means I don’t have as much time to scrapbook, but it does mean I have a bit more time to write as I bring my laptop to the park or wherever I am planning on going. This is what I wrote while I was out and about this week. Adding a Bit of Flair on Layouts With Chalk Chalks, also known as pastels are so much fun to use on your scrapbook layouts. The vast … Continue reading

Finding Scrapbooking Retreats

Are you interested in attending a scrapbooking retreat? Do the girls you scrapbook long for some time away from home, spending a little girlfriend time together and getting some serious scrapbooking done without interruption? A scrapbooking retreat is perfect for this! But how do you find them? First of all, you can certainly search the Internet. I did and found several, except I feel that word of mouth is definitely a more powerful advertising tool. In addition to finding out someones favorite retreat location, you will be able to ask questions about the specifics of the location. What is around … Continue reading

What is a Scrapbooking Retreat?

Crops and workshops have been popular since scrapbooking started in the modern sense. Girlfriends got together and spent time creating fabulous pages, leaning on each other for inspiration and just generally spending some fun time together. Somebody very smart figured out that a scrapbooking retreat was just another great mix to add to our already growing hobby. They are cropping up all over as women find a new and unique way to spend some girlfriend time and get some pages done as well. So who goes on a scrapbooking retreat? What exactly is a scrapbooking retreat and where exactly are … Continue reading

Scrapbooking on a Camping Trip

As avid outdoors man, or woman I guess, it is no wonder that I enjoy camping so much, as do my children. However, sometimes when we go on a camping trip, we find ourselves with some down time that we don’t know what to do with. I miss my scrapbook space, where I often retreat when inspiration kicks in. So several years ago, we began scrapbooking on our camping trips. In fact, we have an upcoming camping trip that we are preparing for, and I am trying to decide what to bring and spending some time assembling some kits to … Continue reading

Celebrating National Scrapbooking Day Part One

What is National Scrapbooking Day? My favorite day of the year is approaching rapidly. I’ll be starting the first weekend in May by celebrating my favorite hobby – Scrapbooking. Saturday, May 6th, 2006 is National Scrapbooking Day (NSD). This date is set aside to commemorate, celebrate and promote the importance of preserving your memories. Can you believe our beloved hobby has it’s own holiday? “Scrapbooking combines family history and contemporary crafts in a fun and interesting way, bringing together adults and children alike,” said Fran Saperstein, Publisher of A-Z Magazines and Scrapbooking.com Magazine. “Scrapbooking continues to be the fastest-growing hobby … Continue reading

Your Kids are Ready for Sleep-Away Camp. Are You?

Reading a recent article at Huffington Post about sleep away camp has me in a bit of a tizzy. The writer (Tina Traster) described a camp information session she was recently at where parents worried about peanuts, and junk food, and socializing with other kids. She also recalled the reality of her own camp days were counselors weren’t screened and she experienced “the most unadulterated part of childhood”. At 13 and 15, my kids have never been to sleep away camp unless you count a few 4-day church youth retreats and a couple of trips to Bob Jones University for … Continue reading

Bzz and You! (Part 2)

For my last blog, we talked about BzzAgent and WOM (word of mouth marketing). WOM works in your own business as well! What can you do to create a “Bzzzzzzz”? There are so many things you can do from giving out samples, to letting your customers “play” to creating your own “Bzz” program! Here are some examples of what I do: For Power Pops, I give out free samples! However, sometimes you have to be careful. One lollipop does not show the full effect of what Power Pops can do. In fact, for many people, it may take a week … Continue reading

Deer Hunter’s Widows Travel Deals

When I first moved to Wisconsin more than a decade ago I had no idea what a major impact deer-hunting season had on the state’s economy. Frankly, aside from the obvious self-explanatory definition, I had no idea what the heck deer-hunting season was all about. Boy, was I in for a shocker when the season rolled around and as a rookie television reporter I was sent out to cover story, after story, after story on every conceivable deer hunting angle that existed. It was only then that I learned what a “deer hunter’s widow” was. Similar to a “golf widow” … Continue reading
