Scrapbook Layouts as Gifts

Earlier this summer I attended a wedding for one of my former TV news co-workers. He and his wife got married in a lovely ceremony on the shores of Lake Michigan. It was a touching vow exchange, though, I was equally impressed by the gifts the couple received from the bride’s crafty friends. Each of the gals from her weekly book group got together to design individual scrapbook layouts for the newlyweds’ wedding memory album. While this is not an entirely novel idea, what made their layouts stand-out (to me, anyway) was the fact that they all included the same … Continue reading

What is a Scrapbook Page Exchange?

Page exchanges are so much fun. I have participated in hundreds over the years that I have been scrapbooking. They are great way to get pages done faster, and get more scrapbooking done. They are so much fun to receive in the mail too. A page exchange is typically hosted by someone. She will select a theme and then participants sign up. Perhaps it will be baby girl, or zoo, or school or birthday. You sign up for the themes you want. You then typically mass produce layouts of a designated number. An example: I hosted a baby girl page … Continue reading

Memorial Day is just around the corner, and if you are looking for a special way to honor a military hero, a scrapbook is a super place to start. Right now you can find a slew of scrapbooking materials that feature a military theme, from stickers to stamps, die cuts to frames. While there is no lack of supplies to decorate your military-themed memory album, keep in mind that the materials are there to simply embellish your page designs, the bulk of the layout should come from personal photos and mementos. For example, if you are planning to craft a … Continue reading

Remembering Forever

When was the last time you looked at your wedding album? Most couples don’t make a habit of pulling out their marriage memory books unless there’s a good reason to do, such as looking to see something specific in a photo or remembering what a guest or member of the wedding party wrote in a speech or toast. Other couples make it a traditional to page through their wedding scrapbook on their anniversary. This is especially true of newly hitched brides and grooms who enjoy taking a trip down memory lane. As couples age, the motivation to thumb through albums … Continue reading

Ways to Scrap the Funny

In a previous blog I revealed how envious I am of Rosie O’Donnell’s dedication to scrapping her children’s funniest moments. In fact, the former talk show host reportedly cranks out daily layouts featuring current events and humorous sayings her four kids share throughout the day. Following my post I received an email from a reader who quipped: “What if your kid doesn’t say anything funny.” My response: Stick with it. Look for inspiration by playing a game with your child or simply spend time with your son or daughter. Young kids especially often say hilarious things when you least expect … Continue reading

Your Family Storybook

I’ve written before about lifebooks, books about foster or adoptive children which show the continuity of their history from birth, through each residence and caregiver until they arrive at their permanent home. Family storybooks are another tool for bonding in adoptive families. This term is used in two slightly different ways. One type of family storybook is a book which is designed to give children an overview of their new home and family. In some cases it may also serve as an overview presented to the state foster care workers or committee reviewing the family’s application. (Some couples looking to … Continue reading
