Wednesday’s Weekly Challenge-Use Your Scraps

I recently saw a very clever way of using those leftover scraps that I loved. It involved rolling up strips of paper, and then putting them on the layout in a tube-like shape. The scrapper did a line of all different, colorful rolls of paper in a row against a white background. The effect was beautiful! Here is a link to the finished project if you are anything like me and need a visual. This was instantly one of my favorite layouts and went right into my favorites folder. I find that it is called scrapbooking for a reason. We … Continue reading

Wednesday’s Weekly Challenge-Winter Wonderland

It is so cold here in Utah this winter. I can’t seem to warm up. The kids have cabin fever, as do I, and you can only go so many times to the library without going crazy. But, I do love the snow, although this winter, it seems a little ridiculous how cold it has been. My many friends and family in the south have even gotten a considerable amount of snow this week. So, since I don’t see a warm up in my future anytime soon, why not embrace what is all around us? Winter!! This weeks challenge will … Continue reading

Wednesday’s Weekly Challenge- Lots of Frills

For the challenge this week, I want to see how much bling and how much flowers we can put on our layouts. While this is not typically my style of scrapbooking on a daily basis, I do like it now and then. And, it is especially nice on those girly layouts that we love to do. So, for this week, here are the rules for this challenge: 1. You must have two or more flowers on the layout. 2. You have to use bling somewhere on the layout, this can include sequins, glitter mist, rhinestones or anything else that is … Continue reading

Wednesday’s Weekly Challenge-One Photo Pages

I’ve blogged a few times about how to fit more photos on your page. For me, and many scrappers, that is challenging. However, I realize for others, it is challenging to scrapbook just one photo on a page. Maybe some think it is a waste, or you just don’t know what to do with all that negative space. For whatever reason it is difficult, this week we are going to give you a few tips on how to make your layout beautiful with only one photo on it. First, one reason that I love to scrap just one photo on … Continue reading

Wednesday’s Weekly Challenge-Lots of Circles

I saw this layout recently that I loved that involved a ton of circles. So, for this week’s challenge, I thought we could try to imitate this layout, and cut lots of circles. To make circles, you can always use a circle cutter. However, for this project, we are going to create little circles. But, before we get to the circles, start with choosing a solid colored cardstock for your background. Then, choose one patterned paper to go over half the page. On the patterned paper, you will place your photo, or photos, and title. This will help you with … Continue reading

Wednesday’s Weekly Challenge-Monochrome Colors

This week, we are going to do something that will really help you think outside the box when it comes to scrapbooking. For me, I love tons of color on a layout. I love to mix and match patterned papers, and I almost always go bold in my color choices. But, why not tone it down a bit? The challenge for this week is to stick with one color tone and only mix it with neutral tones. What are the neutral tones? I would say neutral tones that you can use are: white, cream, beige, tan, brown, khaki, black, gray, … Continue reading

Wednesday’s Weekly Challenge-Multi-Picture Layout

For some scrappers, they always do multiple pictures on a layout. So, this may not bee too hard of a challenge, but for me it is hard sometimes. I love to take a lot of pictures, and I love the look of a scrapbook page with just one photo on it that is the focal point of the page. So, how do I solve this problem? I can either not scrap all the photos I take, or I can scrap more layouts with more pictures on the page. This can be challenging. Recently, I did a blog post titled, Fitting … Continue reading

Wednesday’s Weekly Challenge-Use Your Ugly Paper

So, have you ever bought something that you thought was so great only to throw it in your stash and never pick it up again? Weeks later, you run across it and think, Why did I buy that? Or, maybe you bought a paper pack that just has one or two papers that you couldn’t live without, but the others are all ugly papers that you would never use? If you answered yes, then this weekly challenge is just for you! It’s time to think outside the box and try your best to create something beautiful out of something ugly. … Continue reading

Fitting More Photos on a Page

I did a layout the other day where I fit, count them, SEVEN, photos on one 12 x 12 page layout. I was so proud. Not just because I fit so many pictures, but because I did it in a way where it didn’t look cluttered, and I still stayed within my style. I even had some negative space going on in the layout. It was so fun! Here’s how I did it. The pictures were of my daughter at her first swim lessons. I didn’t want to do a million pages of one event, so I thought, how can … Continue reading

How to Pick the Perfect Paper for your Layout-Part II

Now that you have chosen the right paper for your background, it is time to choose your coordinating patterned papers. I always pick patterned papers that coordinate with the solid color. Usually, I pick 4 or less papers that coordinate with each other as well. Then, I decide which of those papers I want the most of on my layout. Does it look good with the photo as well? If it does, then that is usually what I start with. The reason that I pick so many papers up front is so that I can narrow down what will look … Continue reading
