It is a piece of yourself you can pass on for generations, and it tells about who you are and what you were doing in your lifetime. Getting Started: Basic Scrapbooking Supplies Part Two

There are a few basic tools that you will need when starting to scrapbook: a paper trimmer, a journaling pen and adhesive. I will describe what you should look for when you are ready to buy these scrapbook items. Paper Trimmer In an earlier blog I shared information of my favorite paper trimmer, the Falcon. I know others that love their Fiskars paper trimmers. When looking for a trimmer, make sure that it is more than twelve inches long so that you will be able to cut your 12 X 12 paper. If you are just getting started in scrapbooking, … Continue reading

Scrapping Christmas Past

If my mother had her way digital scrapbooking would be something you’d only see in the movies or on TV like… Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. Needless to say, my mom has not exactly embraced advances in the world of scrapbooking, especially if they involve technology. She is old school all the way. Really old school; as in early 1900’s old school. My mom is a huge fan of vintage scrapbooking. In fact, she is currently working on a Christmas-themed heritage album. Whereas she is not filling the pages with photos of my great-great grandparents, she is using a … Continue reading

Decorating With Words

The expression, “a picture is worth a thousand words,” sums up the essence of scrapbook layouts. However, if you are a fan of journaling blocks, then you know that the right words can provide an added dimension to your favorite photos. Journaling blocks allow you to share perspective on a particular event or series of pictures. Poems are another way you can decorate your layouts with profound thoughts and add deeper meaning to your images. However, when it comes to including poetry to your page designs, it is critical that the words fit the tone of the layout. There are … Continue reading

Inspiration from Others

One of the first techniques I learned when making my foray into scrapbooking was how to use quotes as scrapbook embellishments. I was taught that it was okay to use other people’s words as inspiration provided you included proper attribution and the sayings were appropriate for the design. I realize that some people look down at the use of quotes in scrapbook designs, but I think they are great timesavers, especially if you want to get the book done and you can’t possible journal every page. Famous sayings can be used as page titles, photo captions, and borders. If you … Continue reading

Memorabilia are a nice touch to your page but don’t always look nice pasted directly onto the page. You can also make your own envelope, using your favorite patterned or colored paper. You could also incorporate stamps and … Continue reading

Scrapping Puppy Love

Most pet owners love their fur babies as much (and at times, more) than their human offspring. Consequently, it stand to reason that the four-legged members of the family get equal time when comes to scrapbook space. One of my best friend’s is a huge animal lover. She has three dogs, two cats, a horse, a gerbil, chickens and a bunny. Oh, and she has four children too. Given the size of her brood, it’s no surprise that most of her scrapbooks contain an equal mix of pets and kids. What makes her layouts so special is the way she … Continue reading

Pages for Pennies

Have you ever arrived at the counter of your scrapbook store, arms loaded with wonderful papers, embellishments and the latest and greatest tools, only to get the big shocker when the cashier rings up the total and you’ve spent far more than you thought you had? Yeah. Me too. But there are ways to cut costs when creating pages. You don’t have to spend a lot to have a great looking layout. One of my favorite ways to save money, is to propose a challenge.
