Ad or Art Inspiration Challenges

In previous articles I have discussed how artwork, ads and other items are great inspirational pieces for your layouts. Sometimes it might be a mood or the setting, sometimes the colors used in the ad and sometimes it might even be the entire layout of the ad. I thought that perhaps that by seeing some examples of artwork created using an ad or piece of artwork as the inspiration, it might get you in the mood to try the same. Just as an extra thought, often when I am in a scrap rut, I will grab an ad that I … Continue reading

Setting the Mood in Your Scrap Area

Recently I read an article about the sensory elements that create a perfect room. Many times we focus on the colors and design of the room only. We forget many of the other sensory elements that go into the final design. Since I have been discussing scrap rooms and areas, I thought perhaps I would provide a little advice and some tips. Lighting The visual sensory element. There are so many different types of light you can look into for your scrap area. Obviously good lighting is important while creating your scrapbook pages and layouts, so proper color and coordination … Continue reading

Scrapbooking Your Poetry

The month of April is National Poetry month, and in honor and celebration of my favorite form of writing, I thought I’d share a bit about how to create a poetry album, or even just to create pages with your poems on them. Typically, I sprinkle my poetry throughout my albums and layouts all year long. I write very personal pieces to my children and often they go right on the layout. However, I have binders full of poetry, all kinds: rhyming, musings, haiku and even a sonnet or two. I needed a place to show case a few of … Continue reading

Scrapbooking Color Terminology

Color terminology for scrapbooking is not any different than color terminology for anything else. However, as a Layout Decorator (rather than an Interior Decorator), color plays an important part in our page designs and a basic knowledge of terms might be useful. I spent a great deal of time learning about color and figuring out the terms that might be helpful to a scrapbooker and am providing that information here. Primary Colors – These colors are red, blue and yellow. They are the colors that are not mixed with anything to get their colors. They are pure. Secondary Colors – … Continue reading

Color Lovers

Color is something that influences every scrapbooking layout and project. Our color choices impact the mood of the layout. I have come across a cool new website that is all about color. This is a great place to find color inspiration for your layouts. The colors and palettes can be sorted by most views and newest submissions. You can also do a search for a specific color. I love … Continue reading
