Making May More Manageable

I am a sucker for alliteration. Can you tell? In a previous post, I lamented the madness that accompanies the merry month of May. From graduations and end of the school year concerts, sports tournaments, plays and awards banquets to Mother’s Day and Memorial Day, it’s enough to challenge even the most seasoned multitasker. It’s one thing to be present at each event, but quite another when you are responsible for bringing a gift, food item or other contribution. Right now, I am taking it one day at a time. This weekend, my goal is to complete my Mother’s Day … Continue reading

May is Motorcycle Safety Month

The merry month of May comes with some very nice weather. This inspires people to get their motorcycles out of their garages and take them for a nice ride. Before you do that, though, make sure you have the right kind of insurance. The auto insurance policy that you have on your car or truck is not something that you can use to cover your motorcycle, even though it is, technically, a vehicle. If your state requires drivers to purchase car insurance, then the same law probably applies to people who drive motorcycles. Some people think that they don’t need … Continue reading

The Merry Month of May

I don’t remember Easter ever taking place so late in the year. May is just around the corner. In just a short period of time we’ll be celebrating Cinco de Mayo, Mother’s Day and Memorial Day, all scrap worthy occasions. If you are looking to create a scrapbook as a Mother’s Day gift, then you need to get started right away. Select a theme for your book and round up some photos and embellishments. For example, if you are designing a Mother’s Day layout that showcases all of the gifts your special mom got, then consider creating a flip-open present … Continue reading

Travel Tidbits: The Merry Month of May… Maybe

HAWAII May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii. And this year visitors to the 50th State were given a chance to help the Islands make history. A call out was sent to hotels on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu asking tourists to team up with locals to help create the world’s longest lei. Thousands gathered at Kapiolani Park in Waikiki today to string together a flower garland that stretched for more than a mile. When all was said and done the lei measured 5,336 feet in length and video, photos and witness statements documenting the project will be sent to … Continue reading

Merry Matilda… Maybe

Looking at her bright smile you would never know that 2-year-old Matilda Rose Ledger has been handed a fate most of us can only pray never befalls our own children. The sweet-natured toddler is the daughter of actress Michelle Williams and the late Heath Ledger. Matilda’s name was splashed in the headlines a few weeks back when the actor’s will was made public. And just when that mini drama appeared to be fading from the front pages the little girl and her mom once again became fodder for the forums. Lately, Internet forums dedicated to celebrity offspring have been buzzing … Continue reading

Dear Santa, May I Please Have Some Patience?

Dear Santa, I know this is a last minute request seeing how it’s Christmas Eve and all. I’m sure the elves already have your sleigh loaded and ready to make tonight’s rounds. But I was wondering if you could possibly spare room for one last thing? I’m not asking for a lot. Just a little Patience to get me through until I can refill my reserves on my own. A smidge stuffed in my stocking should do me. You see, I’ve tried very hard to be patient with my husband this year, but now I’m about all tapped out. First, … Continue reading

Ladies & Gentlemen, Welcome to the 11th Month of the Year!

Can it really be November 1st already? That’s the part about the mad dash towards Halloween that always seems startling, the very next morning it’s November 1st and in my family, that means heading in towards the holidays. What lists we may have compiled, what gifts we may have already purchased or picked up and what plans we may have already made go under the microscope as we get ready for the last eight to nine weeks of the year. In three short weeks, it will be the week of Thanksgiving and on the very last day of the month, … Continue reading

Finding the True Meaning of Christmas

My 8-year-old has a severe case of the Christmas gimmies.  Unfortunately, I have myself to blame for her very unmerry malady. Whereas I am by no means showering the kid with pre-holiday presents, I haven’t been doing a very good job focusing on the “reason for the season” either. I’ve been swept into the chaotic tsunami that is the month of December.  Gifts to buy, wrap and mail; cookies to bake, decorate and distribute; cards to take photos for, write and stamp; and the list goes on and on. As a parent, it’s easy to get caught up in the … Continue reading

Holiday Time Crunch

Do you wait until January to craft holiday-themed layouts? I used to stock up on festive Christmas-themed embellishments, papers and memorabilia throughout the month of December, and then go into hiding during the first week of January to complete a marathon scrapbooking session.  However, my pages never turned out as well as I would have liked given my time crunch.  I felt pressure to slap together holiday memory albums just so I could cross it off my to-do list.  What’s more, I was extremely bothered by the idea of working on Christmas scrapbooks when Valentine’s Day was just around the … Continue reading

Schedule Yourself A Happy Holiday Season

It is that time of year again, time for everyone who works at home to get out their calendars and make sure that they plan ahead for a successful holiday season. With all of the family gatherings and other fun things that you want to do within the next couple of months, it is easy to get distracted from your work. However, if deadlines get missed or work piles up into an overwhelmingly large work load, you might not be feeling so merry or bright. By planning ahead for work and play, you can set yourself up for a successful … Continue reading
