Documenting the First Day of School

The first day of school brings out the inner paparazzo in nearly every parent. Moms and dads often try to capture every moment of their child’s return to the classroom. That goes double for parents documenting their son or daughter’s very first day of kindergarten. Depending on how snap happy you are, you could be sorting through hundreds of images at the end of the day. Be careful when sifting through the photos, as you don’t want to delete a picture that could be used later. Once you’ve selected your best shots, showcase them in a scrapbook along with records … Continue reading

Taking the First Step

Do you remember the first scrapbook you made all by yourself? My first memory album featured a travel theme and despite nearly 20 years and seven moves, it is still in one piece. If you are contemplating making the move to scrapbooking, but are overwhelmed by the virtually endless amount of themes available, just relax. Take a deep breath and start with a topic you know well. If you are a parent, the answer might be right in front of you. Selecting your children as the topic for your first scrapbook is an excellent choice on many levels. For starters … Continue reading

Visually Appealing Pages: Part Three

Welcome back to my three part series on “Visually Appealing Pages.” Today we are going to wrap this up with a few more ideas to make your scrapbook pages come alive. Memorabilia are a nice touch to your page but don’t always look nice pasted directly onto the page. If you want to keep some of your memorabilia, paste an envelope to the page and tuck them away inside. An envelope could hold pamphlets, movie ticket stubs and other papers. You can also make your own envelope, using your favorite patterned or colored paper. You could also incorporate stamps and … Continue reading

What Album Do I Put That In?

Here is a problem I have had that I think I have resolved. I have two kids, and of course, they are the focus of most of my scrapbook pages. However, I have wondered if when they are older am I going to give these albums to them, or keep them for myself? I do have baby books for them also. However, those books do not have many pictures in them. So, the majority of their lives are documented in the scrapbooks. I do not believe that you always have to scrapbook in chronological order. So, I have decided that … Continue reading

A Scrapbook of Your Child’s First Year

A nice addition to your child’s Baby Book is a scrapbook of their first year. This enables you to add more than what their Baby Book asks for. You can add your own creativity and save some of the keepsakes that you wouldn’t otherwise keep. A good way to create this type of scrapbook is to do it month-by-month. You can pre-design all of your pages and just add photos, notes and keepsakes as the year progresses. Perhaps design two scrapbook pages per month. The first introduces the month and has a list of new accomplishments for your baby. The … Continue reading

Scrapbooking for Others: Pricing Albums and Layouts

Not everyone is as obsessed with scrapbooking as some of us are. With that being said, it is important to remember that it might not be because they don’t want to be, or they don’t want nice albums to look at and share with their families. For whatever reason, not all people are into our hobby. The good news is, that it enables us to provide our services to them and create layouts and albums for them for a fee. How many pages does a scrapbook album actually hold? This question is asked so frequently. In fact, I see it several times a week on a variety of message boards I frequent, so I thought I would address it and give you the best answer available. The first part of the answer is simple. It has no answer. Except it does so I will explain. It really depends on the name brand of the album, the size of the album and how much three dimensional scrapbooking you do on your individual layouts. Here is more on each situation. Album Brand … Continue reading
