20 Ways to Get Free Entertainment

Free Entertainment is all around us. We just have to reach out for it. 1. Free movie rentals from Redbox. Search for “Redbox codes” online. You’ll get at least one free movie rental a week when using the Redbox video machines. 2. Free Lego Build Event. Each month Lego stores sponsor free building events for ages 6 through 14. Kids can build a new Lego model each month (this month it is a log cabin) and then take it home. 3. Free video games from the library. Chances are that your library is stocked with video games for current systems. … Continue reading

More Fourth of July Fun Without Fireworks

Colorado is burning. So is Utah and parts of Arizona. Some of the nation’s most destructive wildfires are putting a damper on Fourth of July festivities from coast-to-coast. Due to extremely hot and dry conditions, and the fear that other areas may go up in flames like Colorado and Utah, officials have banned the use of fireworks during Independence Day celebrations in nearly every state. If you live in an area where kids are not even allowed to light-up sparklers to commemorate the United States’ birthday, then infuse your Fourth of July parties with these fun activities that don’t include … Continue reading

Untraditional Scrapbooks

You may feel as though you’ve seen just about every themed scrapbook imaginable, but when it comes to album sizes, you haven’t seen unique until you’ve laid your eyes on a scrapbook made from a standard Rolodex. Yes, a Rolodex. Who knew the plastic filing device, which holds index cards and spins for convenience, could be transformed into a place to keep your treasured memories? I got my first taste of the Rolodex scrapbook during a workshop I attended just after Labor Day. The seminar was designed to get avid crafters to experiment with untraditional means of scrapbooking. Rather than … Continue reading

Adding Textures and Layers

Thanks to embellishments, such as 3D stickers, die cuts and flocking powder, scrappers can turn ordinary layouts into extraordinary works of art filled with different textures and layers. These visual enhancements make a page design more appealing. However, the unique embellishments can also add up quick, making it hard for penny-pinching scrappers to maintain the multi-faceted look for an entire memory book. Fortunately, there are ways you can add texture and visual appeal to scrapbook pages without going broke. One of my favorite methods is to incorporate vellum to the layout. The specialty paper is amazingly versatile and doesn’t require … Continue reading

Sticky Situation

When it comes to scrapbooking, I am all about the stickers. Not only are scrapbook stickers extremely versatile, but they are also super easy to use and the varieties are practically limitless. What’s more, for me, they often act as the inspiration for an entire layout. I have long been a fan of Jolee’s Boutique stickers. I don’t use them exclusively, but due to their massive selection, I would estimate that 95 percent of my page designs include at least a few stickers by Jolee’s. The brand is manufactured by EK Success, which is a household name in the world … Continue reading

Join the Club

As if my email inbox was not on the brink of exploding as it is, I keep getting invitations to join different scrapbook clubs. While I am appreciative to friends and family who forward me the evites, I barely have enough time to complete my backlog of layouts, let alone participate in a monthly club. If you are short on time and money, then you should really think twice about joining a monthly scrapbook club. Which is not to say that the clubs don’t offer a variety of benefits; however, you should know that membership requires a certain level of … Continue reading

Experimenting with New Embellishments

I am a die hard scrapbook sticker fan. I rarely create a layout without adding at least a few sticky embellishments. However, stickers don’t come cheap. At least not the ones I collect. Elaborate 3-D scrapbook stickers can cost upwards of $8 per pack. Knowing that I scrapbook on a strict budget, my neighbor has been after me to make the switch to rubber stamps. I’ve been thinking of giving my sticker obsession a break for a bit, but didn’t have a detox plan in place. However, things are about to change. Next month I am planning to attend a … Continue reading

Say “Ole!” to Scrapping

My brother and his family are planning a trip to Mexico next month. Right now my brother is busy organizing air travel, passports and hotel accommodations, while my sister-in-law is working on a vacation scrapbook. Well, I’m sure she’s doing more than just planning her Mexican-themed layouts, but for the purpose of this post, we’ll just stick to what’s relevant. So, I get an email the other day with an attached photo that showcases a rainbow of new scrapbook paper, plus some wild looking hunter green jungle print cardstock. “Guess who’s pre-designing scrapbook pages?” read the subject line. Hence the … Continue reading
