Sticking With What Works

Did you know that gel window clings double as Scotch tape? Just don’t try to use them as adhesives in your scrapbook. My 7-year-old is utterly fascinated by the soft, jelly-like sticky embellishments. Currently, all of her bedroom windows are covered with Halloween-themed gel clings. However, rather than use them exclusively for decoration purposes, my daughter discovered that she can slip the corners of her art work under the gel clings and they have the staying power of traditional self adhesive tape. She was so delighted by her discovery that she tried to use the gel clings as adhesive in … Continue reading

Pop Culture Potpourri: “Sex and the City” Sequel and a Split That Works

Hit me baby one more time. It’s semi-official: The girls from “Sex and the City” will be reuniting on the big screen yet again. At least according to Kim Cattrall. The actress who played Samantha in the HBO series and this year’s mega-successful “Sex and the City: The Movie,” confirmed to British news reporters that a sequel is in the works. The 52-year-old actress revealed that she is “thrilled” to be giving the fans what they want. “The fans keep saying, ‘Yes, one more,’” Cattrall told reporters. “The movie was so much fun to do and be part of again.” … Continue reading

Why Weight Watchers Works

Why the Great Diet System Can Work for You Too… As many of you know, I’m a die hard Weight Watchers fanatic, and yes, I’ve lost a little over 50 pounds—thanks to going every week and sticking to my plan. I’m not going to lie to any of you, I’ve had my ups and downs, I’ve skipped a meeting or two, and yes, I’ve had weeks where I threw all my points out the window, but honestly, I couldn’t have done it without the W-W (and all the support from my family and friends!). From previous blogs you know that … Continue reading

Surviving Independence Day with a Toddler

There are few toddlers who are not captivated by the sight of colorful fireworks lighting up the night sky. It’s the thunderous booms most tots can live without. You want to see real fireworks?  Take an unsuspecting toddler with sensitive hearing to a Fourth of July fireworks show and you’ll get a front row seat to an explosive meltdown the likes of which will surpass any holiday pyrotechnic show. Trust me. Unfortunately, if you have older children, who are unfazed by the massive booms that resonate in your head and chest, the option of staying home on the Fourth is … Continue reading

Gaga for Gourds

Most u-pick pumpkin patches are closed for the season, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get your hands on gourds to decorate your home for Turkey Day. In fact, now is the time to stock up on the adorable little fruits. Mid-November is typically when grocery and discount retailers place gourds on sale. Stores that loaded up on mini pumpkins and whimsically-shaped gourds for the Halloween rush are now trying to unload whatever is left before Thanksgiving rolls around. If you are planning to have a bunch of kids over for Turkey Day, consider filling your cart up with plenty … Continue reading

The Dreaded Car Nap

I’m sure there are millions of Moms, like me, that would agree that the nap your child takes in the car can ruin your entire day. I am a schedule abiding Mom. We do meal time, and nap time like clock work around here. It makes my life predictable, and it works like a charm on my kids. The only exception is when we are traveling, or have company that we don’t follow things so closely. But, your life can begin to feel a little constricted when you have an infant that takes 2, sometimes 3 naps a day. How … Continue reading

Have you ever thought about whether or not you are the right person to have a home-based business? We have all heard the phrase, “The right person for the job.” Well that applies to those who work inside the home as well as outside. It may surprise you to learn that not everyone is cut out for working at home. Working from home requires a certain type of person. One of the ways you can know if you are the right person to work at home is if you are disciplined. It takes a great deal of it to make … Continue reading

How to Reuse Flat Ware (Silverware)

If you have an abundance of flat ware, or have access to a thrift store, you can turn all of those pieces into usable items. You can get rid of your clutter while saving money on items that you might otherwise have to buy. A couple of weeks ago, I was browsing in a fancy store and noticed some trendy home decor. Nestled in among the staged room were wall hooks on rectangles of painted and distressed wood. The hooks were made out of bent forks and spoons. The price tag on each wall hook? $25. You can adapt this … Continue reading

Stick To Your Guns

As single mother’s we are always given advice, a list of things to do to make sure our children grow up to be well adjusted adults. While this is helpful, most of the time, you have to take what works for you and discard the rest, a list of what not to do is just as important. One of the big things I learned quickly is not to give in. In the beginning it was so easy to give in to Hailey, I felt guilty and was trying to make things easier on her. After a while I had to … Continue reading
