Spice Up Your Halloween Story

When it comes down to it, a scrapbook layout is really an adventure in storytelling. Photos, embellishments, memorabilia, captions and journaling all help recount a special memory and preserve it for years to come. With Halloween just around the corner, now is the time to start strategizing holiday layouts. Consider how you want to tell the tale of your All Hallows’ Eve festivities. For example, if you want to put an emphasis on photos rather than write out lengthy journaling blocks, consider spicing up the shots by taking them from unique angles. Experiment with some extreme close ups and or … Continue reading

Puppy Love

How could you not want to place this photo front and center on a Halloween-themed scrapbook layout? I don’t even have a dog and I would seriously consider sneaking that photo on a trick-or-treat page design. My friend does not have any two-legged children, but she is a mom to four fur babies. All five of them hit the streets on Halloween night dressed up in various costumes. It was a sight to see. I snapped a photo of the entire clan and told her to use it next to a journaling block recalling the hilarious holiday moment. I also … Continue reading

Spicing Up Your Stickers at Home

In a previous blog I shared my love of customized scrapbook stickers. Whereas they are more expensive than the pre-fab types, they are often worth every penny, especially if you have spent countless hours trying to track down a certain sticker to no avail. Harley-Davidson does an outstanding job creating custom scrapbook stickers. You can get practically any type bike in adhesive form, plus you can further personalize the sticker by adding names, dates or favorite sayings on it. But, again, this type of service costs a pretty penny. I live on a tight budget, but I love, love me … Continue reading

Spicing Up Stickers

When it comes to scrapbooking I’m all about the stickers. In fact, I could probably design an entire memory book with just photos and stickers and not be the least bit dissatisfied with my efforts. Throw in a few die cuts and we’re really talking masterpiece, but when times are tight, I’m 100 percent stickers. After all, you can beat the convenience offered by scrapbook stickers. Just peel and stick. What’s more, stickers are relatively inexpensive and they come in a variety of shapes, colors, patterns, textures and designs. Still, there are some scrappers who feel strongly about not using … Continue reading

With Easter just around the corner, consider spicing up your holiday page designs with the following ideas: POEMS Easter lends itself to a variety of prose, from religious to whimsical. If you are creating a memory book dedicated solely to Easter, consider creating a couple of pages that highlight original or reproduced holiday-themed poems. You could opt to design a layout around a single Easter poem and embellish it with stickers and stamps or adhere a copy of the … Continue reading

Say “Ole!” to Scrapping

My brother and his family are planning a trip to Mexico next month. Right now my brother is busy organizing air travel, passports and hotel accommodations, while my sister-in-law is working on a vacation scrapbook. Well, I’m sure she’s doing more than just planning her Mexican-themed layouts, but for the purpose of this post, we’ll just stick to what’s relevant. So, I get an email the other day with an attached photo that showcases a rainbow of new scrapbook paper, plus some wild looking hunter green jungle print cardstock. “Guess who’s pre-designing scrapbook pages?” read the subject line. Hence the … Continue reading

More Ways to Scrap Your Spring Break Adventures

Making a spring break travel scrapbook is fairly simple. After all, it doesn’t take much to add photos and memorabilia to layouts. However, if you are looking for ways to make your pages pop, then consider the types of embellishments you use. For example, for a beach-themed page, instead of using a slew of store-bought stamps and stickers for added effect, why not create an ocean and sand setting as a backdrop for favorite photos of your kids frolicking in the waves? You can use chalk to draw the water and sandpaper for the sand. Or, use fine art sand … Continue reading
