Scrapping Beach Memories

Some of my most beloved scrapbooks are ones that chronicle my daughter’s adventures at the beach. Since we spend a good chunk of time in Hawaii visiting my immediate family each year, I have no shortage of incredible photos of my daughter frolicking in the waves and on the sand. I have also collected a decent amount of memorabilia, from sand dollars to scraps of kite tails. In regards to embellishments, well, that’s another story. Since I don’t have a lot of money to spend on my scrapbook hobby, I tend to find frugal ways to embellish my layouts. When … Continue reading

Scraps of Memories

I love to talk about scrapbooking and share ideas with others. I love creating scrapbooks and I especially love to look at them. However I find myself through the years having a rollercoaster ride of experiences when it comes to scrapbooking. When I am up, I am on the ball and keeping everything current. When I am down, the pictures begin piling up and the details of the events within those pictures begin to fade away. The past few months I have been down and watching the memories created begin to pile up. While I have every intention on starting … Continue reading

Lending a Helping Hand

“Charity begins at home.” If I had a dime for each time my parents used that expression while I was growing up, I’d be rich enough to start my own charity. Its repetition was annoying, but effective nonetheless. My brothers and I learned the value of loyalty, and the importance of taking care of the people close to you. Now that I’m a parent, I try to provide opportunities for my child to lend a hand at home, so that when it comes time to help others outside our inner sanctum, she jumps at the chance without giving it a … Continue reading

What’s been the highlight of your summer so far? For my daughter, it’s been boogie boarding; for my friend’s son, it’s been attending band camp; and for my neighbor, the highlight has been her annual trip to Mexico. The trick to crafting an eye-popping series of layouts that showcase your summer memories to the fullest is to plan ahead. For starters, you’ll want to snap a ton of photos of your seasonal escapades. Next, you’ll want to collect as many mementos as possible … Continue reading

Seasonal Wrap-Up

We are just five days away from the official start of spring. Good news for those longing for warmer weather, not so much for scrapbook fans who have yet to finish winter-themed layouts. Namely me. I am really hoping the change of seasons will act as incentive for me to get my Christmas/New Year’s/winter photos printed and placed on a page before Easter rolls around. While lamenting my tendency to procrastinate, I’ve noticed there are some perks to holding off on crafting seasonal page designs. For starters, I’ve been able to save quite a bit of money on seasonal embellishments … Continue reading

Extreme Scrapbooking

If you are wondering why your Sunday newspaper has gone missing for the last few weeks, blame TLC’s “Extreme Couponing.” The popular reality series is being blamed for a rash of newspaper thefts. Apparently, coupon divas looking to save a bundle by using Sunday inserts to purchase mass quantities of free toiletries and groceries are stooping to new lows in order to get high on bargain shopping. They are stealing other people’s newspaper coupons to supplement their stash. According to police in Florida, Wisconsin, California, Idaho, Texas, Alabama and Arkansas, newspaper thefts are on the rise. When the culprits are … Continue reading

Preserve Your Family Recipes in a Family Cookbook

As I was making turkey burgers the other night, I paused to wonder whether my son will ever ask me how I make them. He’s only nineteen months old, so it will be a while before I show him how to cook. To his credit, he can say “burger” already and it sounds really cute when he says it. I would like to think that he will someday be an ace in the kitchen, just like his mom and dad. When the time comes to teach him how to cook, I want to make sure that he learns all about … Continue reading

How Are Your Genealogy New Year’s Resolutions Going?

Here we are at the last day in the month of January. It’s been 31 days since this brand new year began. How have you been doing with your genealogy related new year’s resolutions? Are you working hard on them, or have you forgotten all about them? Jealousy in Scrapbooking

No matter how good we’ve got it, we can always be jealous of other scrappers. Right? OK, maybe it’s actually wrong, but it happens. I wrote about my personal scrapspace in the article, “How I Organize All That Stuff”. I am lucky. I have a room devoted to my scrapbooking. It also doubles as the office, and a place for my kids to make messes while I scrap. But, nevertheless, others might be jealous of what I have. I no longer have to store my scrap stuff under my bed, taking 30 minutes just to get it all out and … Continue reading
