Funny Family Scrapping

“Families are like fudge – mostly sweet with a few nuts.” That quote was front and center on a hilarious scrapbook layout, which was displayed at a crop I attended a few weeks ago. Not every clan is like the Waltons. In fact, I would venture to guess that more families have their roots in reality TV shows, or at the very least, have closer ties to the Simpsons or the Brady Bunch than the Cleavers and Nelsons. Whether your family life is more like a sitcom than a sappy greeting card, there’s no reason not to document it in … Continue reading

Ways to Scrap the Funny

In a previous blog I revealed how envious I am of Rosie O’Donnell’s dedication to scrapping her children’s funniest moments. In fact, the former talk show host reportedly cranks out daily layouts featuring current events and humorous sayings her four kids share throughout the day. Following my post I received an email from a reader who quipped: “What if your kid doesn’t say anything funny.” My response: Stick with it. Look for inspiration by playing a game with your child or simply spend time with your son or daughter. Young kids especially often say hilarious things when you least expect … Continue reading

Tie a Ribbon Around It

I love to scrapbook with ribbon. It can add so much to your page, and there are lots of things that you can do with ribbon to add dimension, and life to your scrapbook pages. This weekend, I actually got to sit down and do a scrapbook layout. It seems like it is harder and harder these days to find time to scrap. But, I used a lot of ribbon on a particular layout, and loved how it turned out. I took a very thick piece of ribbon that I wanted to use for an accent color. In this particular … Continue reading

What’s Your Favorite Color?

As scrapbookers, we think a lot about color. Which ones look good together, and which ones absolutely do not. Have you ever thought about what you would do if you could only use 3 colors on your scrapbook layouts? I saw this question asked in a scrapbooking forum, and it got me thinking. For one, I almost always want to use black and white on every layout. It’s a thing of mine. I like bright bold colors, and it seems that if I throw some black and white in there too, that I have the perfect, eclectic look I love. … Continue reading

Video Walk-Throughs for New Scrapbook Lines

I recently discovered that some scrapbooking design companies are showing their collections online with a walk-through video. I ran across a YouTube video linked on scrapbook.com to Basic Grey’s New Hopscotch collection. As I was looking at the papers, I saw a link to a YouTube video down below. I was pleasantly surprised to be able to see in more detail all the cute papers, embellishments, and add-on kits you can buy with this cute collection. I was able to see not only the paper pad, but the card making kits, page making kits, embellishments, die cuts, etc. etc. that … Continue reading

Do Better Photos Mean Better Pages?

There are many times when I look at someone else’s scrapbook page and think, “Wow! That’s gorgeous!!” Then, I take a second look, and start analyzing (like I so often do) what exactly makes the page look so beautiful. Many times, I realize it is not necessarily the skills of the scrapper, or the great materials they used, but it is simply a great picture. I sometimes feel jealous that I don’t have a better camera. I imagine how magnificent my pages could be if I had a $1500 camera that took perfect pictures no matter how bad the photographer … Continue reading

Disney Scrapbooking Supplies

I have a friend or two who LOVE Disney. I would say that I like it as well. Who doesn’t? But, there are people that are obsessed with Disney. They are the ones that have season passes to Disneyland, or Disney World, and are also obsessed with all things Disney. I mean, who doesn’t love Mickey Mouse? I have a little girl, and I’m dying to take her to Disneyland next year for her 5th birthday. Although, I would not say that I’m a Disney die hard, the one time I have been to Disneyland, the minute I walked through … Continue reading

Boys VS. Girls in Scrapbooking

I had a little girl first. That’s when I dove head first into the world of scrapbooking. I loved all the adorable papers, and embellishments, flowers, bling, etc. etc. etc. that I could put on her layouts. It was so much fun, and so girly. Since that is how I started doing the more modern style of scrapbooking, I am a little lost when it comes to how to scrapbook for a boy. Does anyone else have this problem? So, I find that I want to put things on the layouts that maybe aren’t quite appropriate like papers that look … Continue reading

Scrapping the Funny Things Your Kids Say

Kids really do say the darndest things don’t they? At least most of the kids I know do. As Moms, we try so hard to write those things down so we don’t forget, but why not make a scrapbook page about them? My sister’s kids are hilarious. I love when she calls me with a silly story, or funny thing they did. She keeps track of them on her blog. So, one day, I decided to make a scrapbook page of all the funny things my niece Hazel said. I titled it, “Hazel-isms” In the center of the layout, I … Continue reading
