So what’s been going on in the scrapbooking blog this week? More than enough to hold your interest, with so much more coming all summer long. As usual, the week in review is designed to recap the week, and help you find articles you might have missed. Sunday July 1st In honor of the most recent red, white and blue holiday, Scrapbooking the Fourth of July is full of great advice for what to capture on film, and what memories you might wish to create layouts about. Monday July 2nd For years I have struggled to get that amazing fireworks … Continue reading

Fourth of July Centerpieces

Do you like centerpieces? I hope you’ll like these Independence Day ideas: Light up the Night Or, light up the day with red, white, and blue candles. Create a design, using one large blue candle and surrounding it with smaller red and white candles, or line up one red, one white, and one blue. If you prefer something less symetrical, simply add a mixture of candles in different sizes and shapes in red, white, and blue, and carefully fill the spaces between the bases of the candles with curling ribbon in patriotic colors (making sure none of the ribbon reaches … Continue reading

Seasonal Colors For Scrapbooking

Using color in our scrapbooks, is an important part of the process. Understanding what different colors tend to signify, is equally important. Most colors strongly represent certain holidays, seasonal elements, moods and emotions. For instance, red and green are most commonly used at Christmas time. What other colors represent seasonal changes? With springtime knocking on my door these days, I’d like to show you what color palettes work best for the different seasons. Spring – Springtime evokes a feeling of renewal, new beginnings, and a certain element of freshness. These feelings are best represented when using soft and delicate colors. … Continue reading

Picture Problem

Does this photo look familiar? If you are like me, you likely have a few dozen Fourth of July-themed pictures to place in your summer scrapbook. Whereas I am pleased to have captured so many decent shots of fireworks, family members, friends and other holiday festivities, I am now faced with the challenge of whittling down just a few select images to feature on a single layout. For me, it’s one of the most daunting scrapbooking tasks. When it comes to picking just a handful of photos to include on a page, my indecisiveness rears its ugly head. I have … Continue reading

No Excuses

Lately I have been lamenting my lack of creativity. The lazy days of summer have bled into my layouts. Not only are my page designs uninspired, but they also seem static and boring. In talking to my friend about a less than stellar layout I made featuring photos I took on the Fourth of July, I blamed my stale layouts on my lack of money. I went on and on about how my pages could look so much better if I only had more cash to purchase fancy embellishments and paper. Guess what? She wasn’t having any of it. Rather, … Continue reading

Making Embellishments Pop

If you are a budget scrapper, then you are likely best friends with the sale buckets located at the back of scrapbook shops. The containers, housing reduced priced embellishments, are a gold mine for frugal crafters looking to stretch their scrapbooking dollar. I never miss a chance to dig through the sale buckets at my local scrapbook store. In fact, today I hit the jackpot because the bins were crammed with Fourth of July-themed embellishments which were on sale for 50 to 75 percent off. Granted, much of the materials were generic (stars, flags, flowers, etc.), but they can easily … Continue reading
