Scrapbooking Is Not Just For Women

Scrapbooking is simply not just for women or girls. Why is that such a misconception? I know so many men and boys who enjoy the hobby too. How can you not like having a hobby that deals with wonderful memories, clean crisp color photographs of people you love and care about, and the gift of words that can melt your loved ones hearts.

Several years ago I found a gentleman on a message board I used to frequent. I had looked at so much of his stuff and was terribly impressed. Not only did he enjoy photography and scrapbooking, but he was also interested in oil painting and interior design.

Do you want to know what was even stranger and more unique about this guy who has all these incredible interests? He was only 17 years old!! He was a senior in high-school! And he was as talented as any 50 year old who had been designing for 25 years or more!

Allen Allsman, scrapbooking, Introducing Allen Allsman. Allen was only 17 years old in 2003 when he created most of the work you see here. He lives in Utah with his family and is a student, scrapbook teacher and designer. What more could a seventeen year old want?

This young man will go far in his life. He is an amazing addition to the scrapbook world, as well as the world of design. Not only is it beautiful to see the younger generation showcasing such incredible talent, but it speaks volumes in how secure he is in himself to be able to have the talent he has!

Not only has Allen been published in various different media formats, he has also been featured in Ivy Cottage Creations Creatable Cards & Tags 2 Idea Book. And his work is simply amazing!

Just take a look at some of the amazing work he does!

Do you know of a talented young scrapbooker that I can show off here? Please let me know!

I wish that I could get my husband interested in scrapbooking! He thinks that it is just for girls and that it is no fun! What does he know....LOL!!!!

I guess I am just lucky that way. My man totally is willing to scrapbook with me ;) Of course you have to remember it took me a long time to find someone who cares enough! :) I'm truly blessed and I know it!

Nicole,

Thank you for sharing this. I admit that I often feel like an outsider as a man who scrapbooks. It is indeed puzzling that even though many (or even most) of the most influential and famous artists of the past were men, andn yet suddenly when a new hobby that celebrates being artistic and preserving memories becomes popular is becomes gender-typed as female. I guess being a man at the crop is kind of like being a woman sitting on the board of directors of a huge Fortune 500 corporation. Or maybe I shouldn't be quite so dramatic! :) Being at the crop is a lot less pressure and a lot more fun!

Anyway, I appreciate this tag and I had fun reading it. I'd love to share with you some of the work I have done too. I have been scrappin for about 6 or 7 years, and I am addicted. I'm a 29-year-old graduate student getting my PhD in psychology, but I've even considered opening a scrapbook store of my own since I love it so much. And there is not a single scrapbook store in Manhattan (where I live) yet. And they say you can get anything in New York City!

Oh, and my wife loves the fact that I scrapbook--she is glad she doesn't have to do it!

Thanks for sharing Dan! This was the coolest comment. I have this thing about men who scrapbook - they rock! :) I've met many and it always touches me. They (you) are a rare breed. I would very much love to see some of your stuff, and would love to interview you for a future article if you'd let me (I have a few questions for your wife too!). It is such a wonderful thing to see a man being true to what he loves. Oh and by the way - OPEN THE STORE!! LOL I'll come visit you! :) Thank you so much for commenting, and I hope to hear back from you - feel free to PM (private message) me anytime you'd like. I can give you my email address and you can send me some layouts to view. I'm actually really anxious!

Nicole,

Hello! This is Allen's mom, Sherri. I thought you all might enjoy a little update on Allen's creative endeavors. Here are some links for work he has done since graduating high school.

This first one is a "green" chair he designed that is being manuactured and sold in California. The design of the chair, when bein viewed from the side, is the "A" in his signature. Allen hopes to have these chairs available in many fabrics and finishes.
