Where to Go for Inspiration

It’s that time of the year again. Time when my local scrapbook supply store starts erecting large posters heralding the joys of scrapbook conventions. I have never been to a scrapbook convention, though I would love to go if I could find someone to sponsor my trip. I live in a small rural town and the closest thing we get to a major scrapbook convention is store-sponsored crops that are capped at 20 because of the limited size of the venue. I would probably have to drive to Chicago or Minneapolis if I wanted to attend a large national scrapbook … Continue reading

Gaining Inspiration

Stickers, stamps and die cuts are not the only way to spice up a scrapbook layout. Often scrappers overlook famous sayings as viable embellishments to page designs. While many use recognizable quotes as a source of creative flair for titles or journaling blocks, few scrappers consider using inspirational words to frame photos or to use as page borders. What’s more, many scrappers don’t realize that quotes from famous people can fit everything from baby scrapbook layouts to retirement page designs. There are even famous sayings about scrapbooking as a hobby. Some of the most popular include: “Scrapbooking isn’t about scraps … Continue reading

Using Decorative Scissors in Your Scrapbooking

I recently had the opportunity to check out one of my friend scrapbooking projects-when flipping through the pages of her book one of the first things that stood out to me was her use of decorative scissoring throughout the book. I own quite a few different pairs of decorative scissors. While I do pull them out to decorate books every now and then I have never used them to the level that she did-and it looked fantastic. Decorative scissors like these can be great for creating edging around background pieces of paper. If you’re new to using scissors in your … Continue reading

Scrapbooking Books make for great inspiration

I often find that every few scrapbooks I create I start to get a little stagnant on new and different ideas for creating them. I’ve come of with lots of great ideas that ‘work” but doing them over and over again seems to make those things that looked amazing when they were first created start to look a little ordinary. In talking this weekend with a scrapbooking friend, she tools me she likes to pick up a new scrapbooking book every few months or so for new inspiration. Her and a few friends also share the books, so they can … Continue reading

Scrapbooking Your Way Through History: Introduction and Materials You Need

This is our latest pet project and I must say that it has worked substantially better for me than has lapbooking. One reason is that everything goes into a binder. At our house, this makes it much easier to store and less inviting for the twin demolition team. Another reason is that the project is not dependent on a bunch of little books–which I find difficult to store without someone getting into them before the project is over. Since it’s a binder, we actually plan to add at least one page per time period, or people group that we study, … Continue reading
