Confessions of a Life Story Worker – Part 2 of 2

This artice is the follow on article from Confessions of a Life Story Worker: Part 1. Whose job is it to do the Life Story Work? When I began doing Life Story Work I was worried that I may be breaching statutory laws. I saw the work as belonging solely to Child Safety Officers. My Australian experience with Child Safety workers told me that they were too busy and spent minimal time on their case loads and Life Story Work wasn’t being achieved. Also, their understanding of Life Story Work appeared to fit within a Freedom of Information framework – … Continue reading

Paper Bag Albums part three

Would you like to make your own? It’s easy and it’s fun. Just choose your topic, plan out what you want to say and then follow these easy steps: Collect five paper lunch bags of the same size and color. These will make the base blank pages of your album. Arrange the bags in a stack. You need to alternate the open and closed ends. This helps keep the book even on both sides. Next, fold the bags in half and crease. Use a bone folder to really crease the center. Bind the bags about a quarter inch from the … Continue reading

Paper Bag Albums part two

For my own paper bag album, I chose the theme 10 Things I Adore About You Each thing has its own page and contains an explanation of why I adore him because of that thing. 10 Things I Adore About You 1. Spending Time With You (on the side page is an explanation: Whether it’s ice cream with your girls, or a movie we aren’t actually watching – spending time with you is absolutely the best) 2. You’re An Awesome Dad – Raising three girls alone is tough and you do it with ease and the most love I’ve ever … Continue reading

Paper Bag Albums part one

Recently I met someone special that I simply adore. I wanted to let him know how special he is to me, so I decided to create a special album just for him. I find that mini albums are often a great way to show you care and can not only be fun to make, but a lot of fun to receive. After thinking about it, I decided that the easiest and best way to create the album was to make a simple paper bag album. The size was perfect and it fit right into my budget. It took me two … Continue reading

Cutting Corners

I love watching room design shows on HGTV. They offer fabulous tips on how to get organized, though their budgets are typically bigger (much bigger) than what I can afford. I would love to go on a shopping trip to the Container Store ala Supermarket Sweep. I could fill my cart with specialty boxes and storage containers designed specifically for all of my scrapbook supplies, from albums to embellishments and everything in between. It’s nice to dream, but reality is a different story. As I look at my buttons, brads, eyelets and stamps sitting in old baby food jars, repurposed … Continue reading

How I Organize All That Stuff

The key to organizing your space is to do it in a way that works for you. However, sometimes, it is nice to know what others do to organize their space to give you an idea of ways that you can make it work better. Just recently, I purchased this bookshelf from Ikea, along with this desk. Best decision ever! It was inexpensive, and had room for all my stuff. The best part is that each cubby is a little bigger than 12 x 12 so there is plenty of room for albums, scrapbook layouts, and paper! Plus, you can … Continue reading

Moving to a New Perspective

Do you ever dread doing something so much that you can think up any excuse imaginable to avoid it? Moving is one of those things for me. Digging through years of piled up papers, disorganized drawers, and those bins filled with items you swore you “needed” the last time you moved but have rested untouched. This past Monday morning my wife and I moved to a slightly larger rental property in anticipation of the birth of our first child, Cillian, who we expect to meet around August 13th. Our past moves included our daring adventure with radios to communicate between … Continue reading

Cheap Scrapbooking Supplies from the Kitchen 2

I’ve mentioned before, I just love looking for more great inexpensive items from strange places in my home. I like using things that might not otherwise have been used for exactly that use. Have you ever used anything from around your house in your albums and on your layouts? Part one of the article is posted here. There are plenty more where the original article left off. Plastic Baggies – They are certainly great for sorting and storing items, but they can also be used to hold memorabilia on your page, or to cover a tag or to create a … Continue reading

How To Create Your Own Metal Tags (2)

We have been learning how to create your own coordinating metal rimmed tags to use on your layouts. At this point in the previous steps, you should have at least one empty tag and your supplies gathered together to create your new tag. Step #4 – Creating The New Look – As you removed the original paper that was inserted in the metal tag, you probably noticed that it was originally slipped in between the rims of the metal tag. This is not important anymore. At this time, you are going to adhere the paper or other item you are … Continue reading
