Scrapbooking Made Easy

My mother is the first to admit that she is a dinosaur when it comes to technology. To say that she doesn’t embrace computers or anything digital would be a severe understatement. Ironically, for as much as my mom abhors high-tech gadgets, she absolutely loves the idea of digital scrapbooks. In fact, she is borderline obsessed with digital photo books, which are essentially affordable scrapbooks that you make online. You’ve likely seen the albums advertised on various photography and scrapbooking websites. They feature a variety of prefabricated templates that make scrapping an entire book a breeze. To design the pages … Continue reading

Always Scrapbooking

I barely have enough time in the day to use the bathroom, let alone complete a few scrapbook layouts before the late news comes on. Yet, somehow, my neighbor manages to whip together amazingly detailed page designs in the time it takes me to clean-up the mess from dinner. By the end of the night, Super Scrapper has crafted at least four layouts and is busy organizing her stash for the next night’s session. When I asked her how she is able to be so productive in such a short period of time she responded: “I’m always scrapbooking.” What she … Continue reading

Get Kids Involved in All Aspects of Scrapbooking

My 7-year-old has been scrapbooking since she was a preschooler. She started by helping me place stickers on layouts. Eventually, she learned how to stamp, and then mastered the art of adhering mementos to the page. These days she designs her own memory albums using a variety of embellishments; however, she is still working on including her own photos on the layouts. I am a huge advocate of getting kids involved in all aspects of scrapbooking, especially picture-taking. The boom in digital photography has made it much easier for children to snap scrapbook worthy shots without a ton of training. … Continue reading

Random Scrapbooking

Who says you have to stick with traditional 12×12 albums in order to showcase scrap worthy memorabilia? There are many ways you can put together a memory album without having to purchase expensive scrapbooks. In fact, customized scrapbooks made from unconventional items often make the sweetest showcases for personal collections. For example, if you are on the road and your child is screaming for a boredom buster, you can whip out a three-ring binder and some paper or just a bunch of loose-leaf rings and a hole punch. Your child can draw pictures of scenes he sees out the car … Continue reading

Scrapbooking Adventures

I’m not referring to radical layouts or zany embellishments. Rather, have you considered broadening your creative horizons by attending a scrapbooking trade show? I recently received an email listing a number of scrapbook trade shows that will be offered in my neck of the woods this summer. These organized events are incredible places to network, especially for individuals who currently have or are thinking of running a scrapbook business. Interestingly, most scrappers don’t realize that not all trade shows shun the general public. Granted, most require you to be a registered member of the trade organization or have a valid … Continue reading

Memorial Day Scrapbooking

Hot dogs, ice cream, swimming parties and late-night strolls along the beach; these are just some of the many symbols of summer. Memorial Day is the unofficial kick-off to the summer season. The holiday weekend is typically a time when families gather to spend time in the great outdoors, and more often than not, those adventures are documented and showcased in scrapbook layouts. Fortunately, you don’t have to spend too much time or energy crafting Memorial Day-themed page designs, as most are pretty straight forward. For example, if going on a picnic is part of your Memorial Day tradition, remember … Continue reading

Quick and Easy Scrapbooking

Scrapbooking has never been so easy. If you’ve admired memory albums from afar, but didn’t think you were creative enough to craft elaborate layouts, it’s time to squash your inhibitions. Fortunately, the Internet has made scrapbooking simpler and more accessible than ever before. With the introduction of online scrapbook kits, skill level, income and creativity no longer come into play. Digital kits feature all the design elements, paper and tools necessary to construct a memory book that will be appreciated for decades to come. Contrary to popular belief you don’t have to be a computer geek to complete a digital … Continue reading

Make Scrapbooking More Manageable

I love scrapbooking; however, the hobby can suck-up a ton of time. Even if you have a few years of scrapbooking under your belt, you can easily spend multiple hours crafting a single layout. That time can double or even triple, if you are adding tiny embellishments, intricate memorabilia, or a large journaling block. The key to keeping on task is to avoid getting overwhelmed by your project. Often, I procrastinate when crafting page designs because of the time commitment. Fortunately, there are ways you can create an eye-catching layout without having to pull several all-nighters. For example, if journaling … Continue reading

Cruise Into Scrapbooking

One of my daughter’s second grade classmates spent spring break on a Disney cruise. She returned with a tan and a scrapbook of her high seas adventures, but this was no ordinary memory book. Leave it to the imagineers at Disney to come up with a way to create a 3D scrapbook in the shape of a cruise ship. I’ve never seen anything like it before, and I assume you can only get one if you set sail on the floating House of Mouse. However, just because you can’t get your hands on a pop-up cruise ship scrapbook, doesn’t mean … Continue reading

Have Computer Will Scrapbook

Before you head to your local scrapbook shop to load up on materials to design themed layouts, consult your personal computer. In most cases you can save big bucks by surfing the net rather than strolling the aisles of a craft store. The Internet is teeming with free scrapbook elements, from paper to stickers and just about everything in between. What’s more, the free items can be used in digital projects or they can be printed out and used in traditional scrapbook layouts. I recently helped a friend of mine craft a baby scrapbook for her newborn son. We ended … Continue reading
