Storing Memorabilia

Forget about the “Bag Lady,” if I had to pick a scrapbook nickname for myself it would be “Envelope Lady.” You should see all of the envelopes I have sitting on my craft table. Dozens and dozens of plain, white business size envelopes filled with items I am planning to add to future scrapbook layouts. I store everything in those envelopes, from ticket stubs to copies of my daughter’s Girl Scout badges, coins, award ribbons, postcards, newspaper clippings, greeting cards, journaling notes, photos, even strands of my nephew’s hair from his first “big boy” cut. Envelopes are a cheap and … Continue reading

Celebrity Updates—Cashing in on Rock ‘n’ Roll Memorabilia

Celebrity auctions intrigue me. Not so much because of the items that are up for sale (though it is interesting to see what celebs consider “safe” to part with), but what I find so astounding is how much some die-hard fans are willing to fork over for an item previously owned by someone they likely have never met. In a previous blog I previewed an auction Christie’s was running featuring rock ‘n’ roll memorabilia from some of the hottest bands of the 1960s and ’70s. Most of the items were non descript and unpretentious, such as used T-shirts, sweaters and … Continue reading

Bidding On Pop Culture Memorabilia—-Do You Have What It Takes?

Attention pop culture memorabilia collectors: time to dig deep for a good cause. Well, at least in the case of this next item up for bid. The Tonight Show’s decision to redecorate was the impetus for host Jay Leno’s donation to a friend’s community group. The legendary talk show’s old furniture was on its way to a storage container, but now it can sit in your living room… if the price is right. Leno decided the furniture should be auctioned online and the proceeds be donated to Bailey’s Cafe, a New York-based educational and cultural organization. You have until 7 … Continue reading

Pop Culture Memorabilia Brings In Big Bucks

At least it wasn’t a used hankie… I’m always amazed at how much people will fork over for items previously owned (or simply touched) by a big name star. A stained dress, broken lipstick, old socks, an empty dog food container that bring in thousands of dollars at auction always makes me question the buyer’s sanity… and source of income. But this next item is a bit easier to swallow: A classic Ferrari once owned by Steve McQueen sold for $2.31 million last night at auction. According to reports, an anonymous car collector threw out the winning bid (via phone) … Continue reading

Biggest Scrapbooking Mistakes – Memorabilia

Memorabilia is a must have in any album. Maps from the zoo, a brochure from the science center, an airplane ticket from our trip to New Zealand, it can all be included. What happens when you realize you have too much memorabilia? Well there are several options. You can either pare it down yourself, choose what’s really important. Is it really necessary to include all the postcards and the three different brochures from your vacation? Or can you somehow separate your layouts into a more flowing creation, and include a piece of memorabilia per page? Can you try shrinking a … Continue reading

There are several different ways to incorporate greeting cards into your layouts and albums and still be able to protect and read them. The easiest and fastest way is to create a pocket page and slip them all inside. Inexpensive Ways to Countdown to Christmas

My 8-year-old adores her Snoopy countdown to Christmas calendar… and her wooden Advent calendar… and her chocolate-filled Advent calendar… and well, you get the idea.  My kid is obsessed with counting down to December 25th. While I enjoy seeing her excitement as she tears open the doors to her various candy-filled chronicles, Advent calendars don’t come cheap.  Neither do secular versions featuring syndicated cartoon characters. Fortunately, there are ways you can celebrate the coming of Christmas without going broke.  For example: Paper Chains:  Kids can craft a countdown to Christmas chain to help them visualize how many days until Santa’s … Continue reading
