Scrapbooking Layouts with No Journaling

Creating layouts with your photographs is definitely the point of scrapbooking. Having a scrapbook page or layout with no journaling goes against everything I teach, but sometimes it happens and sometimes a photograph speaks for itself. So how do you go about telling a story with only a photograph, and no journaling? To begin with, think outside the normal scrapbooking box. Get creative with your layout, choose embellishments that might help to tell a story. For instance, a close up of your four year old in Hawaii could be enlarged and placed on a page all on its own. Use … Continue reading

Letter Writing Journaling

Specifically I saved this particular article for today. It is my daughter’s 10th birthday and on every single birthday layout I completed, I tend to do a letter as my journaling. Letter writing feels good, because you can write to the person, and you aren’t as obligated to feel like you have to fill in missing information. The best part of letter writing journaling is that it is the ability to convey your message to the person the layout is for. For instance, today I will be creating a journaling letter for my daughter’s birthday, even though the photographs have … Continue reading

Journaling Written By Hand

One of the most prized and protected possessions I have is the original handwritten letter from my biological mother after I had been contacted by her. I cherish it, and love looking at her beautiful handwriting. Another favorite item, cherished, is a card from when I was a little girl from my great grandmother. She wrote the sweetest card to a 6 year old little girl in her shaky handwriting, but it makes me smile each time I read it. The sight of a special someone’s familiar handwriting can warm the heart. But most of us really don’t like our … Continue reading

For example, many places, including my local scrapbook supply shop, are currently running clearance sales on Easter embellishments. Funny Thanksgiving Layouts

Remember the Thanksgiving when Aunt Lucy made salmon instead of turkey? Okay, maybe that just happens in my family. Whether it’s being served fish instead of bird, or a pumpkin pie exploded in the kitchen, or great-grandpa fell asleep in the middle of saying grace, Thanksgiving is a hotbed for humorous scrapbook material. When you get sick of trying to figure out new and exciting ways to display photos of your family eating turkey, consider adding sidesplitting journaling supplements, funny poems or cute quips to mark the holiday. Many scrappers are afraid of adding poems to their layouts, but if … Continue reading

Decorating With Words

The expression, “a picture is worth a thousand words,” sums up the essence of scrapbook layouts. However, if you are a fan of journaling blocks, then you know that the right words can provide an added dimension to your favorite photos. Journaling blocks allow you to share perspective on a particular event or series of pictures. Poems are another way you can decorate your layouts with profound thoughts and add deeper meaning to your images. However, when it comes to including poetry to your page designs, it is critical that the words fit the tone of the layout. There are … Continue reading
