Scrapbooking Your Summer Adventures

What’s been the highlight of your summer so far? For my daughter, it’s been boogie boarding; for my friend’s son, it’s been attending band camp; and for my neighbor, the highlight has been her annual trip to Mexico. All three events are scrapbook worthy, as is just about any adventure you may experience this summer. The trick to crafting an eye-popping series of layouts that showcase your summer memories to the fullest is to plan ahead. For starters, you’ll want to snap a ton of photos of your seasonal escapades. Next, you’ll want to collect as many mementos as possible … Continue reading

Learning the Hard Way

I’ve been scrapbooking for more than a decade, and as I assess my memory book-making skills, I’ve come to the conclusion that many of the lessons I’ve learned over the years have come from making mistakes. For example, if you live in Hawaii or another warm climate, you need to be extra careful about where you store your scrapbook stickers. Exposure to direct sunlight, heat, humidity and salt air can ruin stickers, regardless of whether or not you keep them in their original packaging. Other lessons I’ve learned the hard way is that paper products should be stored away from … Continue reading

Friday Fun: What Is Your Scrapbook Style? The Results

Finding your scrapbook style is not as easy at it might sound. However I’ve tried to make it easier by creating a quiz. Just answer the questions and find your scrapbook style. Hopefully you took the quiz, because you will find the results below: If you picked mostly A’s your style is SIMPLE & CLASSIC. More than likely your favorite scrapbook magazine is probably simple scrapbooks. You seem to enjoy a clean, simple style. Cover Designs

In a previous post I detailed my attempt to turn my daughter’s old school tablets into kid-friendly scrapbooks. The recycled composition notebooks don’t rival traditional memory albums that you purchase in stores; however, they are ideal for children learning the ins and outs of scrapbooking. What’s more, they are also perfect for older scrapbook fans looking to experiment with different techniques, but are afraid to do so with expensive albums. For example, if you are interested in designing a photo collage as an album cover, but are afraid to do so because you don’t want to ruin an expensive scrapbook, … Continue reading

Scrapbookers Block

We have all heard of writers block. I have been known to suffer from it myself. Less known is what I call scrapbookers block. It’s similar to writers block. You are ready to scrapbook. You have all of your pictures and supplies out, ready to go, but then suddenly you are stuck. Now what? You have absolutely no idea how to go about creating your page. Perhaps you have been stuck in a pattern where every page or album looks pretty much the same, with only the colors being different. You are tired of putting together simple pages. But you … Continue reading

Scrapbooking Week in Review For April 14-20, 2008

With the sunshine replacing many of the rainy days we have been having, I have been trying to enjoy the weather whenever I can. This means I don’t have as much time to scrapbook, but it does mean I have a bit more time to write as I bring my laptop to the park or wherever I am planning on going. This is what I wrote while I was out and about this week. Adding a Bit of Flair on Layouts With Chalk Chalks, also known as pastels are so much fun to use on your scrapbook layouts. The vast … Continue reading

Scrapbooking Week in Review 3-22-07 thru 4-01-07

This week in scrapbooking kicked off with the anniversary celebrating my one year with www.families.com in the scrapbooking blog. I took a look back at some of what was being talked about year ago, and took a back to basics approach to my articles this week. On Sunday, March 22, which was the actual anniversary, I showed you what was posted a year ago in A Year Of Scrapbooking. Many journaling related articles were posted at that time, and more were included throughout the year. Most scrapbookers and probably several non-scrapbookers know me as the Journaling Queen (amongst other creative … Continue reading
