Tips for Getting a Great Family Portrait

You can go and spend a fortune on a portrait sitting, get lots of different poses and then spend hours trying to agonize over which ones you want to order and which ones you want to include in your scrapbook. Or you can create your own portrait sitting and take the photos yourself and spend a lot less money. In addition, you can spend no time actually agonizing over the selection, because the negatives or original digital prints are yours to begin with. This allows you the freedom and flexibility to crop, resize, reprint and alter the photographs until your … Continue reading

Working With Page Titles

Page titles are not necessarily a must have element on your scrapbooking page, but they can definitely help set the tone and mood of your layouts. Not all scrapbooking layouts call for a title either, but adding one can be super easy and loads of fun. So where can you come up with page titles? One of my favorite ways to title a page is by using the title of a song or a lyric from a song. For one of my daughter’s birthday layouts from when she was quite young, I used “It’s My Party and I’ll Cry If … Continue reading

Saving Money With Photographs

Several months ago I taught a basic photography class to a group of nine scrapbookers. We went over both digital photography as well as film photography and we talked about the importance of organizing your photographs for ease of scrapbooking. Surprisingly I learned that of the nine women present that night, only four regularly printed photographs. Two ladies admitted to having several rolls of film at home that have not been developed along with hundreds of digital photographs just sitting on their computer. The other three used digital and one lady admitted to having over a thousand photographs on her … Continue reading

Personally, I am allowed more time to scrapbook in the summer, because the school year commitments have diminished, and I have loads of free time. For me, it is the last month of school that is the hardest with five kids. There are ceremonies, end of school parties, end of school year field trips, pictures, … Continue reading

As scrapbookers, we tend to accumulate a large amount of stickers and different types of die cuts, which can include page toppers and other shapes. Storage for these ideas, while plentiful, can be somewhat confusing, and since every scrapbooker is different, you have to find what works best for you and the space you are using. My favorite product is The Stadium Organizer, pictured left. This innovative, new product is a plastic stadium style plastic container, which can hold different sizes and shapes of die cuts and sticker sheets. To learn more, see this article. Keeping Your Photos Safe: The Scientific Side

The scientific side of keeping your photographs safe goes far beyond just keeping your photos away from water, dirt, high temperatures and making sure not to leave fingerprints and scratches. Although those are important, there are some more scientific things to be aware of. Most scrapbookers have heard the word acidic and the words lignin free. Perhaps you’ve even heard of buffered. But what does all this mean to a scrapbooker and how do you take proper precautions to make sure that the supplies you are using won’t damage your photographs? The first rule is always to look for supplies … Continue reading
