Is Scraplifting Really Alright?

One of the questions, I am posed most often, when I am teaching a scrapbook class or workshop, seems to be “Is scraplifting really okay to do?”. While many scrapbookers have formed their own ideas and opinions regarding scraplifting, some are still pondering that question. So here is my opinion on scraplifting. Scraplifting: The act of copying another scrapbookers ideas and designs to use in your own scrapbook albums and layouts. Partial ideas or whole ideas can be “lifted”, and all are considered scraplifting, though the definition for some is subjective. Why do some people scraplift? The main reason people … Continue reading

Make a Scraplift your Own

Remember my article yesterday on scraplifting? If you are a novice scrapbooker, trust me when I say, everybody does it! If you feel guilty copying tit for tat, don’t! But, if you do, then here are a few ways you can change it up a little, but still get that same type of look. 1. Use different papers. So many of us shop the same places and have the same papers that it is so easy to copy exactly what someone else has done. However, there are enough papers out there where we can pick another paper that is similar … Continue reading

Starting an Idea Notebook or Inspiration Journal

As any scrapbooker knows, inspiration comes from all over the place. Often it is what sparks our creativity and gets us making these amazing layouts. However, many scrapbookers know that sometimes we glean ideas or inspiration from other scrapbookers and other sources related to scrapbooking or other paper projects. I have been scrapbooking for over thirteen years now. I have amassed quite a collection of magazine articles, layout clippings, sketches, pictures and pieces I intended to use as inspiration to create these amazing layouts. Some might call it scraplifting, but since I don’t scrap lift the designs as much as … Continue reading

Monday Layout Challenge – School Layouts and More

Recently I realized that I hadn’t done many scrapbooking pages on my children’s school activities. I have the photographs, the layouts just haven’t been created. So I challenged myself to get to work on those. And I’m not just doing traditional pages, I am branching out, or if you will “stepping outside the box” a bit and trying to find some unique perspectives. I just want the layouts to make the photographs really be the focus as well as trying to complete layouts that are different than the norm. This week’s challenge for all of you, is to pull out … Continue reading

Scrapbooker’s often get into a rut when it comes to specific pictures. They envision this amazing layout, and the inspiration to create it just never comes. Today’s challenge is to create a layout in which you spend no more than 30 minutes on it. In order to create a layout in 30 minutes, it might be easier for you to use a sketch or scraplift from a message board. This is … Continue reading

Free Scrapbooking Software

Scrapbooking is my money pit. My mad money can quickly go from substantial to nothing when there’s a 6/.96 sale on paper at JoAnn’s or a half off clearance at my local scrap shop! It’s an addiction, but I can quit at any time, really I can. I don’t need to scrapbook; I do it because I want to. Does that sound like an addict? I wonder if they have 12-step programs for scrapbookers. I do try to be financially responsible in my scrapbooking, finding frugal ways to cut costs. I love free scrapbook-related things, whether they’re the Disney paint … Continue reading
