Time is running out for all of you slow scrappers. If you are looking to craft a memory book to gift to your Dad this Father’s Day, you can’t afford to procrastinate any longer. By now you should have all of your materials together, including the album, paper, embellishments, photos and mementos. To further expedite the construction process, it’s a good idea to have some general notes or sketches detailing how you want your finished layouts to look and what order you plan to display your page designs. When it comes to piecing together layouts, I typically work off of … Continue reading

Scrapbooking: The Early Years

When I first toyed with scrapbooking as a hobby seven years ago, I had a single accordion album and a bunch of random photos. Clearly, I wasn’t well-versed in what it took to create dazzling layouts. Today, I still struggle to design eye-popping pages, but at least I have a bit more knowledge regarding what it takes to make the most of pictures, embellishments and blank pages. If I could do it all over again I would have ditched the accordion album earlier in my scrapbooking journey. Granted, the book is wonderful for beginners, especially since it sports a simple … Continue reading

Scrappy Blog Mania

A few years ago when I was scrapping a ton, scrapbook blogs weren’t all that popular. Maybe they were, and I just didn’t know it because I didn’t have a blog myself at the time. But, now that I currently run 4 blogs, aside from writing here, I have blogging on my mind. Big surprise huh? The thing that has amazed me is that in the year or so that I took off from scrapbooking after my 2nd child was born, it seems the scrapbooking blogging world exploded. When I am on message boards, and forums, everyone is promoting their … Continue reading

How to Create a Sketch for a Scrapbook Layout

I see sketches every where for scrapbooking layouts. They are on blogs, in challenges, swaps, contests, magazines. I was wondering, how does one go about making one of those sketches??? It might be easier than you would think. I am still learning. In fact, I just played around with it the first time last night. But, it was so much easier than I would have expected, and my computer software is pretty much ancient history. In fact, I think they have outlawed it because it is so old. But, I managed to squeak out a little pre-made sketch on my … Continue reading

Scrapbooking for Others: Creating a Sample Album or Binder

Once you begin scrapbooking for others or getting paid to scrapbook, you might wish to put together a sample album or binder. This is quite a bit different from the Scrapbook Portfolio, and should actually be kept separate. A sample album or binder is usually a book of samples or sketches that the person can choose depending on the number of photographs or layout desired. So why create an album or binder with sketches or samples? It makes the job much easier when you have provided them with a visual guide to what their layouts will look like. If you … Continue reading
