Scrapping Christmas Past

If my mother had her way digital scrapbooking would be something you’d only see in the movies or on TV like… Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. Needless to say, my mom has not exactly embraced advances in the world of scrapbooking, especially if they involve technology. She is old school all the way. Really old school; as in early 1900’s old school. My mom is a huge fan of vintage scrapbooking. In fact, she is currently working on a Christmas-themed heritage album. Whereas she is not filling the pages with photos of my great-great grandparents, she is using a … Continue reading

Couple Scrapping

Couple scrapping is nothing new. However, here in the conservative Midwest it is rare to see a scrapbook shop advertise special male-only couple’s scrapbook nights. Personally, I’m not sure why you would want to exclude traditional male-female couples, but apparently, there’s a reason behind the new trend. As I mentioned in a previous blog, the number of male scrapbookers is growing exponentially, and not just among the gay community. There are tens of thousands of straight guys, who have been introduced to the hobby by their girlfriends or wives, and simply liked what they saw. Studies show that men, who … Continue reading

Star-Spangled Scrapping

My grandfather was born on the Fourth of July. He died a few years ago, but we still celebrate his memory on Independence Day. While the rest of the country is belting out “Happy Birthday” to the grand ol’ US of A, our family is softly mouthing the words in honor of our beloved patriarch. When he was alive, we’d have a large family get-together to celebrate both my grandfather’s birthday and America’s. The resulting scrapbook pages included a ton of photos of candle-blowing, gift-opening, fireworks and food. Plenty of food. I’ve got layouts with my mom’s famous blueberry pie … Continue reading

Scrapping the Joys of Motherhood

Your mom doesn’t have to be a craft queen to appreciate a Mother’s Day scrapbook gift. What’s more, you don’t have to be particularly crafty to make a Mother’s Day scrapbook gift. All it takes is a few fabulous photos, some embellishments and a whole lot of love to craft a memory book mom will cherish for years to come. If you are truly craft-impaired, then consider making a mini album rather than a traditional 12 x 12 scrapbook to honor mom. Mini albums are basically smaller versions of the larger models, but feature 6×6 or 8×8 pages. You still … Continue reading

My Funny Valentine

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be dripping with lovey-dovey prose and high-octane romance in dark secluded spots.  For many families, February 14th is a time for love and laughter. If you are looking to create a Love Day layout for your funny Valentine, consider peppering the page with the following humorous quotes and poems: You know it’s love when you want to keep holding hands even after you’re sweaty. You can’t put a price tag on love, but you can on all its accessories. Love is a lot like a backache, it doesn’t show up on X-rays, but you know … Continue reading

Over 40 Holiday-Themed Scrapbook Title Ideas

“Holiday Hoopla” is the title of a scrapbook layout I made last year.  It features photos of three generations of my family cooking together.  I was going to use “Organized Chaos,” but decided to go with the seasonal title instead. Coming up with page titles is a passion for some scrapbookers, while others see it as a pain.  I like to ponder page titles while I am figuring out the placement of my photos, memorabilia and embellishments.  Often, a title will pop into my head as I survey all of the materials I am featuring on the layout.  However, … Continue reading

Busy Summer Scrapbooking

According to the owner of my local scrapbook supply shop, summer is her slowest time of the year. Ironically, summer is when I do the bulk of my memory book-making. Perhaps, it’s because my daughter is off of school during the summer and we tend to craft more when she is home. However, I have a feeling that the reason I complete more scrapbooks in the summer months is because I take more pictures during June, July and August than other months. While the rest of the world puts their cameras to use extensively during the holidays (October, November and … Continue reading

Whether you are visiting the sea solo, or you are there with your entire clan, a trip to the beach is a memorable occasion. In fact, beach-themed layouts are extremely popular with summer scrapbooking fans who want to preserve the season’s highlights.
