Spice Up Your Halloween Layouts

Despite the miles in between Happy, happy Halloween! Not exactly Shakespeare, but it ties in well with my “Ghouls Just Want to Have Fun” page title. I’m rushing to put together a double page Halloween layout for my great aunt’s 90th birthday scrapbook. I’m in charge of creating half of the holiday-themed pages, while my sister-in-law has to come up with designs for the remaining holidays and major occasions, such my birthdays and family reunions. Right now I am working on Halloween. The layout has to include all of the youngest members of the family, as well as photos from … Continue reading

Scrapbook Challenges

What is the most difficult part of putting together a scrapbook layout? For some it’s finding just the right photos to tell a story. Others struggle to keep embellishments from taking over a design, while still others find it challenging to mix and match different scrapbook paper. For me, one of the toughest parts of creating a memorable page design is coming up with a really amazing title. In my opinion, page titles are an essential part of a layout. While some opt to skip titles all together, I think they make layouts so much easier to understand. After all, … Continue reading

Fun and Festive Layouts

Aren’t all scrapbook layouts fun and festive? After looking at a rather dreary black-and-white New Year’s Eve page design at my local scrapbook supply shop, I’d say the answer is a resounding “no.” Obviously, if you are creating a layout as a tribute to a deceased loved one or you’re commemorating a somber occasion, the words “fun” and “festive” are not going to be the first that come to mind. However, when you are designing a layout celebrating New Year’s Eve, a holiday that is ripe with family, food and fun moments, you wouldn’t aim to have it look like … Continue reading

Picking a Title for Your Scrapbook Layout

Sometimes picking a title for your layout is the hardest part of all. Or maybe this is just me? But, often, I will work on a layout and complete everything but the title, and still be completely stumped. Usually, I like the title to be a little different, but also to give you a feeling for what the page is all about. Using words like sweet, precious, adorable, etc. can get a little old after you’ve been scrapbooking for over 10 years. So many times, you have to get creative! But, that is the point of scrapbooking right? Here are … Continue reading

Fun Birthday Scrapbook Layouts

This year my daughter celebrated her birthday with 26 of her closest friends. It’s a shindig I won’t soon forget, and believe me; it won’t be duplicated for at least another 10 years. In addition, to opening 26 different birthday presents, my little girl tore open nearly three-dozen birthday cards, many of which were handmade by her young friends. Given that I don’t plan to host a bash for those many kids anytime soon, I kept each and every one of the birthday cards. I wasn’t sure what I was planning to do with them, but after seeing a scrapbook … Continue reading

Sunday is Grandparents Day. Do you have a gift picked out? If you are short on cash and creativity, then consider these tips to create a one-of-a-kind scrapbook for your child’s grandparents: Photos: Forget about cramming 200 photos into a single book. Instead, select a few of your favorite photos of your children and their grandparents and if you really want to include others, then place them in divided plastic pages at the end of the finished book. Memorabilia: A huge part of scrapbooks is the nifty … Continue reading

Family Favorites Scrapbooking

Getting your family involved in your family albums is a sure way to create a legacy or preserve memories the way they should be preserved. It is an interesting change when you ask your children or husband what in particular they remember about an event. Usually it is a far cry from what you remember, or what was important to you. It is important to include all these different aspects in different pages. Lately, I have tried to ask my children’s opinions on what things they remember or what events were their favorites when I am creating a layout. This … Continue reading
