Surviving Your Kid’s Spring Break

Not your little guy’s break from school, your older one. You know, the one who begged you to let him head down to Cabo with a bunch of friends for spring break, and now you are sitting at home praying that the next call you get isn’t from a Mexican prison. Keeping children safe is the utmost priority for most parents, but you can’t expect your college-age kid to want to spend every school break at home so you can monitor his every move. Sure, viewing Facebook photos of your son at the bottom of a beer bong and your … Continue reading

Cruise Into Scrapbooking

One of my daughter’s second grade classmates spent spring break on a Disney cruise. She returned with a tan and a scrapbook of her high seas adventures, but this was no ordinary memory book. Leave it to the imagineers at Disney to come up with a way to create a 3D scrapbook in the shape of a cruise ship. I’ve never seen anything like it before, and I assume you can only get one if you set sail on the floating House of Mouse. However, just because you can’t get your hands on a pop-up cruise ship scrapbook, doesn’t mean … Continue reading

More Spring Themes

Now that my daughter’s spring break is over I’ve been sifting through my photos to see how to best design seasonal scrapbook layouts. Unlike some families, we didn’t jet-off to Jamaica, Florida, California or New York for Easter. However, that isn’t stopping me from crafting page designs showcasing the spring-themed activities we did partake in. When it comes to scrapbooking seasonal events, try to personalize your layouts. While it’s easy to look at someone else’s page designs and simply make a carbon copy; you are better off tailoring your layouts to show-off your personal experiences. For example, this year our … Continue reading

Spring Sanity Savers

On the tenth day of spring break my second grader gave to me… a heart attack when she climbed our neighbor’s Lebanon Cedar tree. Sing it now. On the eleventh day of spring break my second grader gave to me… If your child’s school spring break is pushing the limits on your sanity, then consider the following activities: Spring Blooms: Get out and enjoy the fabulous spring weather by having your child collect a variety of blossoms. Look for daisies, roses or lilacs which can be pressed in between heavy books for a few days. When the flowers are flat … Continue reading

From Spring Break to Scrapbook

Five kids from my daughter’s second grade class are spending spring break with Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy. Yup, they are jetting down to Orlando for the week and my daughter isn’t letting me forget it. Her classmates will be joining tens of thousands of other families who plan to spend spring break in the house of mouse. I’m sure those moms and dads will be snapping plenty of pictures to show off to family and friends. While most of the images will likely make it on Facebook, I’m sure at least a few will find special spots in vacation … Continue reading

Spring Scrapbook Savings

Spring is in the air… and so are record-breaking temperatures. We’re supposed to hit 75 degrees today. That’s a huge deal when you live in northern Wisconsin. Of course, with high temps comes the appearance of shorts and… garage sales. The latter can mean some serious savings for scrapbookers. Garage or yard sales can yield a litany of amazing scrapbook embellishments at rock-bottom prices. While there, look for buttons (even if they are still attached to a cheap shirt or dress), ribbon, beads or charms from old costume jewelry, lace or wrapping paper. All of these items can be added … Continue reading

So Long to School Scrapbook

Now that spring break is over, my first grader has begun counting down to the last day of school. Where has the year gone? I can’t believe that school will be over in just six short weeks. I want to cry. Not just because I will soon be the mother of a second grader, but also because I have yet to scrap more than the first day of school in my daughter’s memory book. I still have big plans for her book. I just need to get my act together so I can bring my big plans to fruition. Some … Continue reading

More Ways to Scrap Your Spring Break Adventures

Making a spring break travel scrapbook is fairly simple. After all, it doesn’t take much to add photos and memorabilia to layouts. However, if you are looking for ways to make your pages pop, then consider the types of embellishments you use. For example, for a beach-themed page, instead of using a slew of store-bought stamps and stickers for added effect, why not create an ocean and sand setting as a backdrop for favorite photos of your kids frolicking in the waves? You can use chalk to draw the water and sandpaper for the sand. Or, use fine art sand … Continue reading
