High-Tech Photo Tools

High-tech tools are making it harder and harder to miss photo opps. Today, you can find smartphones that are equipped with the same mechanics featured in upscale digital cameras. BlackBerry, iPhone, Palm Pre and HTC Touch, are just a few handheld gadgets that allow people to keep in touch with family and friends and shoot incredible photos at the same time. However, these high-tech devices aren’t the only inventions created to aid shutterbugs. Free photo organization and editing tools are also part of the package, including: Photo Session: Recently, Flickr unveiled a social image-sharing app called Photo Session. Why Pay for Digital Scrapbooking?

Have you ever paid for online scrapbooking services? I can’t see why you would have to given how many reputable sites offer high-quality services for free. Granted, I am not a hardcore digital scrapper. Rather, I tend to cling to the traditional method, but still, I can honestly say that I have yet to spend a dime scrapping online. Of course, I am not easily suckered into buying hard-bound printed books containing my digital layouts, which is how many digital scrapbooking companies make their money. Another way online companies generate an income while still offering free scrapbooking services is that … Continue reading

Making the Most of Leftover Prints

With the advent of digital photography, standard 4×6 prints are not nearly as popular as they once were. So, what do you do with the hundreds and hundreds of printed photos you have bulging out of albums, shoe boxes and manila folders? My suggestion: Photo collages. I am a photo collage-making maniac. Ever since I was in high school I have loved making large collages from duplicate prints. I can’t stand seeing paid prints go to waste and I get such a thrill from viewing completed collages that I make at least one of two per month. The beauty of … Continue reading

Disney PhotoPass

It’s time for another edition of “What Is This Disney Feature?” In February I learned of all the many places money on a Disney gift card might be spent, but two of the names were unfamiliar. I’ve since examined Club Penguin, and today I’ll look at the second title I didn’t recognize: Disney PhotoPass. Disney’s all about creating lasting memories. That’s even the latest theme at the Disney parks. Because a primary way people make and preserve memories on vacations and throughout their lives is through photography, Disney decided to get in on the action. PhotoPass has existed for years … Continue reading

Digital Photo Danger

Luckily this post isn’t a sob story about losing all of the photos of my child because they were on my computer which got stolen, stopped working, exploded, deleted them, etc. I’m fairly tech-minded but I’ve got to tell you that it took me a while to really think the issue of digital photos through enough for me to come to my senses. When I look back at photos our wedding and our honeymoon I instantly realize how important these images are. They take us back to a time when things were different. Probably not better but certainly worth remembering … Continue reading

Baby’s First Photo Shoot

As I’m about to have my first baby, I keep thinking about her first photo shoot and I’ve realized I have several questions to answer before she’s ready for her debut. You may want to consider these questions as well before scheduling or taking baby’s first photo shoot. First off, what are you going to use the photos for? Are you looking for a big print to hang on your wall, or are you shooting for lots of little prints you can hand out to everyone you know? Or in this digital age, you may be simply planning on putting … Continue reading

Picking a Photo-Sharing Site

My daughter’s last birthday party was attended by dozens of family members and friends. The “Lilo & Stitch”/Hawaiian theme was a huge hit and I took more pictures than I could possibly, scrapbook, frame or file. On top of the shots I took my brothers, friends and other family members also snapped dozens and dozens of other photos with their own cameras and cellphones. A month after the party I was swimming in birthday pictures. Enter the photo-sharing website. If you have hundreds of pictures you want to preserve, organize and share with the world I highly suggest finding a … Continue reading

Free and Low Cost Artwork

We just mostly finished up our family room, installing new carpet and painting the walls. It looks great, and there are only a few things left to do in the room. One of the big tasks that is remaining is to select some artwork, including pictures for the walls. Right now, everything is blank. Artwork could really warm up the room and add some personality. Do you have any ideas for free and low cost artwork? Here are my ideas. My computer is filled with thousands of digital photos that we took, including scenic photos of flowers, birds, the woods, … Continue reading
