Scrapping the Love

A few years ago I joined the Confraternity of Christian Mothers… and I’ve never felt more inadequate about parenting. Kidding. Sort of. Not really. The women in the group are saints and I am a better person for knowing them. Executing the same patience and humility as they do, well, let’s just say I’m a work in progress. Despite the fact that the group’s name centers on the blessing of motherhood, we also discuss marriage and the sanctity of the sacrament. During a recent get-together a few of the younger moms shared their wedding scrapbooks, many of which included incredibly … Continue reading

Fat Tuesday Scrapping

Fat Tuesday is just a couple of days away, but the party is already well underway in New Orleans and other parts of the world. Mardi Gras celebrations are fun-filled, action-packed and brimming with vivid (or not so vivid) memories. All of the excitement leading up to Lent yields amazing material for scrapbooks. A few years ago I scrapped a Mardi Gras-themed layout, and to this day, it’s one of the most colorful page designs I have. The celebration lends itself to eye-popping colors, such as bright purple, green and gold. If your embellishments are neon bright, then you might … Continue reading

Scrapping Snow Events

“Nothing good comes from snow.” I’m pretty sure I’ve uttered that phrase on more than one… thousand occasions since moving to Wisconsin 20 plus years ago. I grew up in Hawaii and now I’m forced to reside where snow comes to die in massive amounts from October until June. Go figure. I’m not a snow hater. Actually, I find the white stuff quite beautiful… in pictures… and in scrapbooks. In fact, I recently viewed a gorgeous winter-themed scrapbook featuring dozens of exquisite snow photos, which were embellished with equally eye-popping snow-themed stickers, stamps and rub-ons. Included in the book were … Continue reading

Basic Anniversary Scrapping

My parents will celebrate their 42nd wedding anniversary next week. They have accumulated more memories in those four decades than I could ever fit into a single scrapbook. I marvel at the scrappers who attempt to create memory books for couples celebrating 50, 60, 70 years of marriage. To me the task is would be overwhelming. However, that shouldn’t deter you from creating anniversary albums. After all, it’s not every day that you try to chronicle multiple decades of a shared life. My advice when creating an anniversary scrapbook, especially if you are a beginner, is to keep it basic … Continue reading

Scrapping Autumn Adventures

The problem with being a snap-happy parent is that you are left digging out from so many (many, many, many) photos, that it’s almost too overwhelming to figure out a way to use them all in a scrapbook layout… or two, or three… or an entire book… or two or three. Take for example, my family’s latest trip to the pumpkin patch and u-pick apple orchard. In less than four hours I snapped nearly 500 photos of my daughter making like Linus in her search for the perfect pumpkin. Ditto for the apples. Then, there were the shots of her … Continue reading

Scrapping Your Child’s Favorite Sport

Are you ready for some football… scrapbooks? High school football is huge around these parts. We live in a rural area, so there isn’t much to do on a Friday night other than cheer on local high schools as they battle it out on the gridiron week after crisp fall week. Given my child’s age and gender, my family doesn’t frequent the games too often, but when we do, I am always shocked by the number of parents jockeying for space on the sidelines in order to snap keepers of their kids. Our neighbor’s son plays for one of the … Continue reading

Fall Scrapping

I love fall. The leaves are gorgeous, the weather is mild and the layout ideas for scrapping are practically limitless. In addition to major events, such as the first day of school, Halloween and Thanksgiving, fall brings with it a myriad of other memorable moments that are prime for scrapping, including fall foliage tours, apple picking, pumpkin picking, and autumnal nature walks. All of the aforementioned activities are frame worthy, plus they also yield amazing mementos that can be incorporated into your layouts. For example, a nature walk page design can include pressed leaves that you find along a trail, … Continue reading

Gearing Up for Halloween Scrapping

Within 72 hours of Labor Day officially ending, our local Wal-Mart began removing back-to-school supplies and filling the empty shelves with Halloween paraphernalia. No, I still can’t get over it. If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em, right? Today, I started sorting through my Halloween scrapping supplies, hoping that I had enough leftovers from last year to get me through 2010’s Nightmare on Candy Street. Fortunately, I have a variety of stickers, rub-ons, rubber stamps, charms, and die-cuts to make several decent Halloween-themed layouts. However, I will need to purchase additional decorative patterned papers, given that the ones I bought … Continue reading
