Spicing Up Easter Layouts

For scrapbook designers looking to put a little hop into an otherwise boring Easter-themed layout, consider channeling your inner Jerry Seinfeld or Maya Angelou. Sharing a smile along with Easter photos of your family members can go a long way to liven up a traditional holiday page design. For instance, rather than simply adhering a bunch of pictures of your children participating in an outdoor egg hunt on plain scrapbook paper, pepper the space with silly Easter jokes, such as: What did the eggs do when the light turned green? They egg-cellerated What kind of plants do eggs keep? Eggplants! … Continue reading

More Ideas for Easter Layouts

My all-time favorite Easter-themed scrapbook layout features a timeline of my young daughter’s encounters with the Easter Bunny. Typically, these meet and greets take place at the mall, though I have a few photos of her in recent years trying to hit up the Bunny for chocolate at outdoor Easter egg hunts sponsored by the city or our local zoo. This year I will keep the tradition going by snapping her in the park with Peter Cottontail and adding the photos to the layout. There are a variety of ways you can make a page design like this work, though … Continue reading

Do You Have Pictures of Your Kids in Your Wallet?

I was looking through some photos yesterday and realized that I have a gazillion pictures of Tyler but I don’t carry any pictures of him in my wallet. I remember back in the day when you would ask a person if they had kids and out would come this accordion montage of that person’s offsprings. Today, that same person is more likely to whip out their cell phone and show you a few digital images. That’s exactly what I would do. It got me to thinking- do parents still carry photos of their kids in their wallets or have we … Continue reading

Make It a Memorable Father’s Day

Forget about the striped tie, fishing pole, and Chia Head; rather, give dad something he can cherish for years to come this Father’s Day—-a scrapbook celebrating his life. When it comes to organizing a memory book honoring dad, the possibilities are endless. If this is your first stab at theme scrapbooking, consider going the traditional route with a basic chronological design. With this technique you simply document your father’s life from birth to present day. Your layouts should include childhood photos taken at birthday parties, Christmas, Easter, and other holidays. Also, look for pictures that capture major milestones in his … Continue reading

More Spring Themes

Now that my daughter’s spring break is over I’ve been sifting through my photos to see how to best design seasonal scrapbook layouts. Unlike some families, we didn’t jet-off to Jamaica, Florida, California or New York for Easter. However, that isn’t stopping me from crafting page designs showcasing the spring-themed activities we did partake in. When it comes to scrapbooking seasonal events, try to personalize your layouts. While it’s easy to look at someone else’s page designs and simply make a carbon copy; you are better off tailoring your layouts to show-off your personal experiences. For example, this year our … Continue reading

Planning Ahead

Easter is barely in the rear-view mirror and stores are already erecting displays with merchandise for Mother’s Day and school graduations. I’m not even done eating my daughter’s chocolate bunnies yet. Still, if you are planning to scrapbook events such as your child’s high school or college commencement, now is the time to start planning, especially if you want to save money on materials. For example, many places, including my local scrapbook supply shop, are currently running clearance sales on Easter embellishments. This is a great time to stock up on paper featuring your child’s school colors, especially if his … Continue reading
