Documenting Commencement Traditions

You know the time-honored tradition of tossing your graduation cap in the air at the end of a commencement ceremony? Yeah… never did it. When I graduated from high school, I was too afraid of not being able to find my cap in the ensuing post-ceremony chaos that I simply kept my mortarboard bobby pinned to my head. When I graduated from college, I didn’t dare toss my black cap into the air because I was having a horrendous hair day. There was no way I was going to be photographed without something masking my messed up mane. Also, I … Continue reading

Random Photo Tips

I finally got around to organizing my photo corner. Believe me; it’s not as fancy as it may sound. My “photo corner” is basically a small square of space I carved out in the family room. It boasts a table, chair, computer and a few storage items that are used to organize images, and eventually place them in scrapbooks. I haven’t touched the space since spring, except to pile more and more “stuff” on the sagging wooden table. The mess included notes about certain photos and tips I found online or in books. Some of them are quite old, like … Continue reading

Scrapbooking Made Too Easy?

My daughter’s first grade graduation party went off without a hitch. She celebrated the milestone with family, friends, and a huge five-tiered chocolate cake. In addition to the sugar and smiles, my soon-to-be second grader scored a gaggle of gifts, including a beginner’s scrapbook. Interestingly, my daughter didn’t quite know what to make of the book containing pre-made layouts. Since I am a relatively avid scrapper, I have always allowed her to make page designs from scratch using my stash of photos and embellishments. The album she was presented with includes decorations and mats for photographs, so there is little … Continue reading

Time Lapse Scrapbooks

I have always been enamored by time lapse photography. There’s just something so intriguing to me about seeing an object, person or landscape develop over time. When I worked in TV news, we’d always include time lapse photography showing the clouds roll in and out and the sun go up and down during the weather segment. With the popularity and ease of use of digital cameras, creating your own time lapse photo layouts is easier than ever. Once you create a photo masterpiece, consider showing it off in a scrapbook filled with other time lapse displays. My first time lapse … Continue reading

Spring Break Scrapbooks

Spring doesn’t officially begin until March 20th, but many families have already hit the road to escape Old Man Winter’s wrath and enjoy sun and fun in warmer climates. My nephew’s school spring break wrapped up last week. He spent five glorious days surfing, sculpting sand ramps for his Hot Wheels’ cars and snacking on his favorite sandwiches at a popular Hawaiian hot spot. My sister-in-law is now busy crafting a Spring Break 2011 scrapbook to showcase the photos she snapped during their family getaway. Spring break scrapbooks are a cinch to make, especially if you visit the beach during … Continue reading

Scrapbook For Free to Make Money

Have you ever thought of scrapbooking for money? Any scrapper who loves what they do probably has thought to themselves, “I should do this for other people and get paid for it!” Or, maybe someone loves your work so much that they have said to you, “I’d pay someone to do this for me!” Well, many times the problem is getting started. A lot of people that have decided to go this route get their business through word of mouth. But, how do you get people to see your work? A great way to do this is by starting small … Continue reading

Single Holiday Scrapbooks

There’s no better excuse to scrap than a festive holiday. Whereas I have seen some scrappers create holiday-theme scrapbooks featuring a number of holidays (in chronological order), from New Year’s Eve all the way to Christmas in the same book, I prefer to scrap one holiday at a time. Meaning the title of my scrapbooks read, “Thanksgiving 2009” or “Christmas 2008,” and include photos and memorabilia specific to that holiday. If you are not an avid photographer and you don’t have enough photos to fill a single book or you simply don’t have that many activities to document, then you … Continue reading

Create a Fun, Fall Scrapbook

Fall is just officially a few days away, although here in Wisconsin it already feels like fall. I have to say that this is my favorite season. I love the cooler temperatures, when the leaves begin to change colors, drinking hot cocoa and making homemade soups. There is just something cozy about this time of year. What better way to capture the joy of fall than to create a fun, fall scrapbook. A fall scrapbook is a wonderful way to personalize what this season means to you. To create a fall scrapbook you may need to start planning pictures that … Continue reading

Creating a Recipe Scrapbook

Scrapbooking is not just a way to preserve photographs and memories. You can create a variety of scrapbooks that preserve other things such as your family recipes. What better way to hand down some of your family’s favorite dishes than by creating a recipe scrapbook. My 13-year-old daughter recently got her hands on a sugar cookie recipe from her grandmother. She just loves to bake and has become so good at it that she scoffs at me when I bring home the ready-to-break cookie dough or the kind that you just slice. I’m not entirely sure where she got her … Continue reading

Choosing a Great Wedding Photographer Part 2

I previously went over a few things you’ll want to keep in mind as you choose a wedding photographer, and this topic is so important that I thought it would be worth a little more attention. One of the more obvious things to check on when choosing a photographer is price. You should have an established budget for what you’re willing to pay for wedding photos. This obviously depends on what you want, but it could range from very little to the most expensive item you plan for. I’ve known people who have done both extremes and many somewhere in … Continue reading
