Sporty Scrapbooks

My local Hobby Lobby has reduced the price of gymnastics-themed scrapbook stickers by 30 percent. Could the sale be inspired by the American women’s gymnastics team bringing home team gold from London? Or, am I reading too much into it? After all, soccer, basketball, swimming and baseball-themed stickers remain at full-price. The 2012 Summer Olympics may be over, but as I mentioned in a previous post, you can keep the good times rolling by creating layouts or entire memory albums using your future Olympian as the subject. When crafting sports-themed scrapbooks you can incorporate several different elements into your page … Continue reading

Scrapbooks Made Easy

I am a huge fan of Shutterfly albums. While some call them an insult to scrapbooks, when you are in a hurry or simply don’t have the creative juices to craft a traditional memory album, the hardcover digitally generated books featuring your favorite photos and journaling, simply can’t be beat. I like to refer to the albums as scrapbooks made easy. You simply can’t fail when crafting the digital albums, as the directions are a cinch to follow and the actual steps are short and sweet. Several companies offer these types of books, including Shutterfly and Snapfish, which have designed … Continue reading

Birthday Scrapbooks Preserve Exciting Memories

Everyone loves birthdays, especially when the guest of honor is a young child. Proud parents are likely to have pages and pages of pictures of their little ones’ parties from that all important first birthday and onward. As a family history enthusiast, it may be nice to pull together a collection of birthday pictures and stories from a group of individuals, such as all of the cousins on one side of the family. Whether for a group or an individual, a birthday scrapbook containing pictures and stories from their parties over a span of years is sure to be a … Continue reading

Untraditional Scrapbooks

You may feel as though you’ve seen just about every themed scrapbook imaginable, but when it comes to album sizes, you haven’t seen unique until you’ve laid your eyes on a scrapbook made from a standard Rolodex. Yes, a Rolodex. Who knew the plastic filing device, which holds index cards and spins for convenience, could be transformed into a place to keep your treasured memories? I got my first taste of the Rolodex scrapbook during a workshop I attended just after Labor Day. The seminar was designed to get avid crafters to experiment with untraditional means of scrapbooking. Rather than … Continue reading

More Theme Pages for Baby Scrapbooks

A new survey on expectant parents shows that more and more moms and dads-to-be are keeping the gender of their unborn child a delivery surprise. Not knowing the sex of a baby makes it a bit more challenging for the people throwing the baby shower, especially if said individuals are trying to design a baby scrapbook to present to the expectant guest of honor. If you are uncomfortable making a book that features generic layouts in gender neutral shades of green/yellow/tan, then consider creating a nursery rhyme theme. Not only are the colors universal, but the little ditties often teach … Continue reading

More Ideas for Baby Scrapbooks

Baby scrapbooks are considered the foundation of scrapping since most scrappers get their start by creating books for their children. However, just because a baby book is your first step into the world of scrapping, you don’t have to settle for elementary layout designs. There are thousands of embellishments, paper and ideas that can easily be incorporated into a baby scrapbook and more are debuting every day. For example, a couple of weeks ago I saw the cutest Dr. Seuss quotes for scrapbooks. The popular children’s book author has a slew of whimsical words of wisdom to add to scrapbooks … Continue reading

Storytelling through Scrapbooks

Most of us are familiar with journaling in our scrapbooks. These are short little quips that describe what is happening in a photograph. It is fun to fill scrapbook pages with these, as it makes the scrapbook become more personable. What about storytelling through scrapbooks? Storytelling would be a more detailed account of something. Try to imagine how one day that story could really mean a lot to someone. In fact, just think how you would feel if you had scrapbooks that your mother created that is filled with story after story. Wouldn’t you just treasure them? If your mother … Continue reading

Creating a School Scrapbook

In my ongoing quest to find new things to scrapbook, I just came up with yet another one. Over the years I have kept important school papers in binders. I label each binder with my child’s name and the grade. It is so neat to go back several years and look at their work. Now I don’t keep everything. I only keep really important stuff like when they first wrote their name, awards, special writing assignments and that sort of thing. I keep them protected in clear page protectors. The binders are nice because it keeps everything organized but they … Continue reading

Creating Themed Scrapbooks

Themed scrapbooks are a fun idea. It helps to take away the scrapbookers block that so many of us get. The idea behind a themed scrapbook is that you start off by picking any theme. Think of your favorite trip you took as a family. You could create a Disney scrapbook. Think of your favorite sport to play. You could create a football scrapbook. Think of your favorite hobby. You could create a recipe scrapbook. Whoever the scrapbook is for, pick a theme that suits that person. If this is a family scrapbook, what theme encompasses what your family is … Continue reading
