Valentine’s Day is about those we love and our children are tops on that list. So why not have some fun with them and try out some of these ideas. Collage Fun

The word collage is from the French word “coller”, which means “to glue”. Collage is one of my favorite projects to do with children. Most kids really get into the project once they figure out that there isn’t just one right way to do it. At first they may glue five or six pictures that don’t even touch on the page. Show them examples of collages with tilted pictures and images that overlap. Once they get the idea, most kids almost tend to overload the page. To start you need is a board to glue things to. Pick something heavy … Continue reading

Collage Tips for Scrapbookers

I’ve already discussed the art of collage, so here are some useful tips and tricks to consider as you create your collage: Use a non-permanent adhesive to stick down the different elements on the page. This way, if you don’t like the way you placed everything, you can just remove it and place it somewhere else. There are repositionable glues out there that make collage work easier. Don’t use metal right directly on your photographs. I’ve already encouraged you to either spray with a archival spray on the papers, but keep in mind that these metals can damage the photographs … Continue reading

Create a Collage (1)

Scrapbooking has expanded in many ways, and the styles are constantly changing. I am firm believer in doing what you feel most comfortable with, and what you like best. Collage: n 1: a paste-up made by sticking together pieces of paper or photographs to form an artistic image; “he used his computer to make a collage of pictures superimposed on a map” 2: any collection of diverse things; “a collage of memories” 3: An artistic composition of materials and objects pasted over a surface, often with unifying lines and color. 4: A picture or design created by adhering such basically … Continue reading

Spring Ahead

I can’t wait for spring to arrive. Actually, I’d love to fast forward to summer.  However, when it’s 2 degrees out with a windchill factor of 25 below zero, I will happily settle for a shot of spring. Since I can’t control Mother Nature, I’ve decided to take matters into my own hands by injecting a little spring fun into our home.  My 8-year-old is sick and tired of the snow and cold, but we can’t afford a trip to the Caribbean, so we’re making do with the following budget-conscious spring-themed activities: Spring Art:  Let your kids flex their creative … Continue reading

Keep It Simple

In the wake of the senseless shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School, many parents are reevaluating their priorities.  With Christmas just a few days away, there’s been a shift from chaotic to calm. Whereas a week ago many parents were rushing around like decapitated chickens trying to hunt down a mountain of material items to place under the tree, today, those same parents are realizing that life’s greatest gift isn’t something that can be wrapped in pretty paper.  Rather, moms and dads around the world are slowing down and savoring every minute with their kids.  If the incomprehensible loss of … Continue reading

Get Creative with Covers

When it comes to memory albums, you can’t help but judge a book by its cover. Crafting an eye-popping scrapbook cover is a challenge for some, but the process can be quite rewarding once you learn how to harness your creative energy. Making your own cover is not as hard as you may think. One way to craft a stunning cover without breaking the bank is to decorate a standard three-ring binder or a plain hardcover journal with a collection of your favorite scrapbook embellishments. Use stickers, rub-ons, or patterned paper to design an attractive cover. Another frugal idea is … Continue reading
