Framing Your Scrapbook Works of Art

There are two ways to interpret the title of this post. First, at the risk of sounding as though I lack an ounce of humility, there have been times when I’ve contemplated framing a scrapbook layout because it turned out beyond incredible. Why waste its beauty in an album that rarely gets open when it could be hung on a wall for the world to admire? There are times when we outdo ourselves and our page designs become stunning works of art. In these cases it’s easy to consider framing a layout. However, that’s not exactly the message I’m addressing … Continue reading

Consider Clip Art

If you are scrapbooking on a budget, then you should seriously consider embellishing with clip art. The computer generated graphics are some of the cheapest scrapbook embellishments around. And by cheap I mean free. The Internet is teeming with websites that offer free clip art. The sheer variety of graphics allows you to flex your creative muscle while filling theme albums, from baby to military, holiday to wedding. I am quite loyal to ScrapbookScrapbook when it comes to downloading clip art. Not only does the site feature a ton of traditional graphics for back-to-school books and birthday albums, but there … Continue reading

What to Consider When Getting a Cat

Between cats and dogs, the two most popular pets in America, cats are the more low maintenance. They can ostensibly be left on their own for longer periods of time, and they don’t require quite the same levels of attention as dogs. Because of that, however, sometimes people think they can just adopt a cat and let it be, when there are still several things to consider when determining if a cat is suitable for your lifestyle. First things first, you’ll have to consider your cat’s vaccinations. Depending on how young of a cat you adopt, and from where you … Continue reading

Preschool Sun Smarts

Preschoolers love the sun, sand and surf. However, as a parent you don’t want your child’s trip to the beach or pool to be ruined by a bad sunburn. Before you set out to soak up summer’s rays with your preschooler consider taking the following steps: Exposure: Limit your preschooler’s exposure to the midday sun. The hours of 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. are when the sun’s rays are at their strongest. Sunscreen: Never leave home without it. In addition, you might want to set up camp under a tree or in another shady area. You might also consider purchasing … Continue reading

How Do Monkeys Keep Their Nails Clipped?

Do they even have nails to keep clipped? These are the type of burning questions that keep me up at night. (Okay, they don’t keep me up at night. But I was thinking about it before I drifted off last night.) So I did some cursory Internet searching today and found that apes and most monkeys do in fact have nails, but some have claws. I could not find any mention of how they keep them trimmed. While clever, I’m fairly certain no ape or monkey colony has come up with a nail salon out in the wild. But if … Continue reading

Sending Articles as a Way of Touching Base

Do you ever feel like your “reaching out” to prospects and customers (or colleagues, vendors, etc.) is getting boring? Or maybe you have a hard time figuring out when or how to touch base with people without seeming pushy or dorky? One easy way to make a “non asking” connection is to consider sending articles that you think will be of interest to individuals you are trying to cultivate. With the advent of the internet, it has become so easy to include a link or paste a page and send along an article to someone in your contact circle. This … Continue reading

A Vacation To Eclipse All Others

The summer following my freshman year in college I flew home to Hawaii to witness one of the world’s most spectacular astronomical events-—a total solar eclipse. On July 11, 1991 residents and visitors in Hawaii, Mexico, and Central America stood in awe as the moon passed over the sun and left the regions in complete darkness for seven whole minutes. (A duration that will not be exceeded until the year 2132.) The experience of totality is one I will never forget. The most memorable part was standing in an eerie twilight as the moon’s shadow swept across the landscape at … Continue reading

Last Minute Harry Potter Party Costumes

This afternoon we stopped by our local bookstore to find out the schedule for the Harry Potter party tonight. Already, the front window was lined with at least 70 boxes of the book. The boxes were all taped several times around with security tape. While we have been planning to attend the party, we hadn’t actually planned on wearing costumes. But by the time we got home the boys decided that they were going to need to dress up. Here are some ideas we’ve come up with for last minute costumes: Rob your Halloween box for witches hats, black robes, … Continue reading

The Pets Blog Week in Review for Jun 4-10

For the first full week of June, here’s what Aimee and myself covered in the Pets Blog. Monday, June 4 Moose has got a special new trick (slipping out of his collar) that’s giving Aimee fits –and potentially a heart attack. Apparently it’s not enough he just slips his collar, he also thinks Aimee chasing after him to get him hooked back up is a fun game. Tuesday, June 5 The Great Cat Rehabilitation Project made even further progress. I got my Mr. Meow shower buddy back. This is a big step! Aimee and crew have had to make a … Continue reading

Save Money on Haircuts Part 2

Part 1 of this series discussed going to a cosmetology school in order to save money on your family’s haircuts. I would like to now suggest something that takes a little more nerve, but saves even more money. Consider becoming the hair stylist for your family. Now before you shrug it off and say, “There’s no way I could cut my family’s hair.” Think about this: I have no experience with cutting hair. I am not an “artist” by any means and don’t even really like to attempt new things that I’m not comfortable with. However, my family couldn’t afford … Continue reading
