Seasonal Scrapbook Savers

Unless you are purchasing a gift for a fellow crafter or you absolutely have to have a holiday-themed memory album complete by Sunday, I would avoid purchasing Christmas-themed scrapbooking embellishments in the next 48 hours. Rather, if you wait until next week, you will be able to score great deals at post-holiday sales. There is no shortage of holiday-themed scrapbooking supplies on the market right now. However, these products can often be very expensive. If you’re a frugal scrapbooked, you’ll wait to stock up on seasonal goods when they go on sale. You can stretch your scrapbooking dollar even further … Continue reading

Withstanding the Test of Time

My daughter is still fairly young, so when I design scrapbook layouts I tend to stick with more classic designs. I hope that by doing so when she becomes a mother, and later a grandmother, my hard work will withstand the test of time and she won’t look at the pages and wonder what I was thinking when I put them together. Timeless designs are safe, but they can also be boring. The key to making them shine is to include your own sense of style. In addition, for practical purposes, you want to use quality materials. There is no … Continue reading

Making Embellishments Pop

If you are a budget scrapper, then you are likely best friends with the sale buckets located at the back of scrapbook shops. The containers, housing reduced priced embellishments, are a gold mine for frugal crafters looking to stretch their scrapbooking dollar. I never miss a chance to dig through the sale buckets at my local scrapbook store. In fact, today I hit the jackpot because the bins were crammed with Fourth of July-themed embellishments which were on sale for 50 to 75 percent off. Granted, much of the materials were generic (stars, flags, flowers, etc.), but they can easily … Continue reading

Mother’s Day Scrapbooks: Back to Basics

I just saw a car commercial that suggested dads should come into purchase new wheels for Father’s Day. For crying out loud, we haven’t even celebrated Mother’s Day yet and Madison Avenue wants us to start thinking about buying gifts for dads. My calendar still says April. I still have to finish the scrapbook I am making for my mom for Mother’s Day. I certainly don’t need a car company breathing down my neck about Father’s Day. So, yeah, time is ticking on my half-done Mother’s Day memory book. I’m sure I will be able to finish in time if … Continue reading

Punch and Fluff

As I mentioned in a previous blog, I am planning to flock the heck out of my Easter layouts this year. Thanks to the discounted flocking powder I purchased at a post-Christmas sale, my April page designs should be fuzzier than ever. What’s more, the upcoming holiday will also allow me to put my favorite paper punches to good use. I will be punching hearts, stars and swirls, then flocking them like a madwoman to add spice to my Easter pages. Flocking powder also comes in handy when you are looking for easy ways to make stamps pop. I often … Continue reading

Extra Special Scrapbook Pages

I suppose all scrapbook pages are relatively special, otherwise they wouldn’t be created. However, today I witnessed the makings of an extra special scrapbook page with hair as its theme. Last year my friend’s daughter decided to grow out her hair so that she could eventually donate it to the Locks of Love organization. The public non-profit group provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children, who suffer from long-term illnesses. After nearly 10 months of diligent maintenance and few, if any haircuts, my friend’s daughter lopped off more than a foot of tresses for kids she has never met. The momentous … Continue reading

Buy Your American Girl Scrapbook Supplies For Christmas

I have a few nieces that are right in the middle of those pre-teen years. My daughter is still too young for that, but she thinks she is as old as they are. Something I always struggle with is what to get them for birthdays and Christmas. I ran across some adorable ideas recently on www.twopeasinabucket.com. Did you know that the American Girl brand makes great craft supplies for this age group? I didn’t. Maybe this is common knowledge, but what a great idea for Moms that scrapbook to share their fun with their daughters with one of their favorite … Continue reading

Visually Appealing Pages: Part One

Scrapbook pages are visually appealing to the eye. Using different colors, layouts and accessories can help to create an interesting page. Try not to get too wrapped up in simplicity. Scrapbooking is your opportunity to think outside the box and get creative. So here are some ideas on how to make your scrapbook pages more visually appealing and creative. First, think about how you can incorporate embellishments onto your pages. Stickers are fine but there are so many other interesting trinkets that could be included on your page. Brads, sequins, ribbons, lace, jewels, flowers, buttons and snaps are just a … Continue reading

Book Review: Scrapbook Workspace by Memory Makers

Recently, a friend of mine gave me the best birthday present: scrapbooking supplies! A scrapbooker’s dream right? Well, at least it is for me. I love to receive a gift card to a craft store, or a set of supplies. This friend is not an avid scrapbooker like myself, so it was nice to see what she bought me. She did a really good job. She got me papers, die cuts, stickers, rub-ons and even a book by Memory Makers called, How to Organize Your Scrapbook Workspace. In the scrapbooking world, it is important to be organized. How else can … Continue reading

Now That Would be Great to Scrapbook About!

Do you base your decisions on what to do on how great it would be to scrapbook about it? Do you ask your child to perform a cute task well beyond exhaustion in order to properly record it and photograph it? Do you keep your camera on you while strolling though your home so you will not miss any cute moments? Do you buy cute scrapbooking paper and plan an event so you can use it? I will be the first to admit that a cute layout and page came before the event. I will not go so far as … Continue reading
