Beachy Keen

Don’t let your family getaway go undocumented this spring.  If you are planning to escape to the sun, sand and surf, be sure to take plenty of pictures, collect a bunch of mementos, and then create eye-popping scrapbook layouts to preserve all of the good times. Beach-themed page designs are fun to make.  Use the opportunity to flex your creative muscle by incorporating items you collect during your vacation with the myriad of scrapbooking embellishments available in stores and online.  For example, consider bringing home a small container or Ziploc bag of sand from the beach and adding it to … Continue reading

Just Beachy

I finally finished the beach-themed scrapbook I’ve been working on for more than a month. It features a ton of photos like this one: My daughter adores the sun, sand and surf. She swims like a fish; however her new passion is boogie boarding. I really tried to highlight her love of riding waves in several layouts, though the rest of the memory album is dedicated to other beach adventures. One of my most favorite page designs pays homage to our last day at a beloved beach in Hawaii. I tried to recreate the topography of Hapuna Beach by covering … Continue reading

Beach Theme Background Paper

With much of the nation baking under record high temperatures, it’s no surprise that area beaches are packed to the gills. After all, who doesn’t enjoy soaking up the sun, sand and surf? Whether you are visiting the sea solo, or you are there with your entire clan, a trip to the beach is a memorable occasion. In fact, beach-themed layouts are extremely popular with summer scrapbooking fans who want to preserve the season’s highlights. Photos of family members burying each other in the sand, surfing, frolicking in white wash, collecting shells or watching the sunset make great additions to … Continue reading

Scrapping Beach Memories

Some of my most beloved scrapbooks are ones that chronicle my daughter’s adventures at the beach. Since we spend a good chunk of time in Hawaii visiting my immediate family each year, I have no shortage of incredible photos of my daughter frolicking in the waves and on the sand. I have also collected a decent amount of memorabilia, from sand dollars to scraps of kite tails. In regards to embellishments, well, that’s another story. Since I don’t have a lot of money to spend on my scrapbook hobby, I tend to find frugal ways to embellish my layouts. When … Continue reading

The Sight of Music

Despite taking five years of piano and three years of flute lessons as a child, I can’t play myself out of a paper bag. Well, that’s not entirely true. I can still play “Turkey in the Straw” and “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” on the piano from memory without messing up… too much. And I can blow out a decent rendition of the theme song from “Dallas” on the flute like an aging rock star. Do rock stars play the flute? In any event, memories of my days as a lackluster music student came flooding back recently when I was … Continue reading

Preserving Summer Memories

Now that summer has officially arrived, there’s no time like the present to preserve all those seasonal memories. Whether it’s a cross-country trip to grandma’s house, experiencing the thrills and chills of a world-famous theme park or having fun in the sun at the beach, don’t forget to pack your camera so that you can document every fun-filled moment. Once you get home you can sort through your shots and create a storyline of your summer fun in a themed scrapbook. While you are organizing your pictures think of ways to pair them with appropriate embellishments that will make your … Continue reading

Tropical Layouts

With so many people heading south for spring break, now is the time to stock up on tropical-themed scrapbook embellishments. Even if you are not planning a spring fling to the Caribbean, Hawaii or Mexico this year you can save the materials to use on a summer beach-themed layout or a page design for honeymooning friends. Since we visit my parents in Hawaii twice a year, I typically purchase a bunch of unique local Hawaiian scrapbooking supplies in the Islands rather than stocking up online or in shops here in Wisconsin. However, if you prefer to choose from the myriad … Continue reading

Scrap Your Winter Escape

Old Man Winter is alive and well here in the Upper Midwest. Judging by the Weather Channel, he is kicking up trouble from coast-to-coast, which is probably why so many people are looking to jet-off to tropical locales right about now. If you are one of the lucky ones and a trip to paradise is in your near future, don’t forget to document your fun in the sun. You’ll need those photos and mementos to create a beach-themed scrapbook when you return. Crafting eye-popping beach vacation layouts is always fun, especially since the theme is so casual. Unlike wedding or … Continue reading

Flex Your Creative Muscle

Just when I thought I’d seen it all in the scrapbook creativity department, I catch sight of a layout featuring tiny photo book booth-style images linked to form a photo frame. Brilliant. What a great way to use up wallet size or smaller prints. When it comes to making the most of every day items, avid scrappers are a force to be reckoned with. I remember thinking that scrappers were the most amazingly resourceful people on Earth the first time I saw a layout featuring a map as a background. An ordinary paper map doubles as an incredible background for … Continue reading
