Make Your Layouts Sparkle

Lately I have noticed many fun accents and embellishments on layouts that actually sparkle and add such a fun touch to the layout. Adding something that sparkles can give the layout a more playful or elegant feel, depending on how you use the elements on you page. I thought that I would share a few of my favorite products that sparkle so that you can give some a try if you haven’t already. American Crafts Glitter Gem Pens. These pens come in a wide variety of colors and actually have glitter included in the ink so that as you write … Continue reading

Font Fun – Back To School Fonts

It’s almost that time of year again for many children, as they are heading back to school. Three of my five are already back in school. The other two start next week and are entering middle school. So, not only do I already have back to school layouts to do, along with several school functions that have already taken place, with two brand new middle school students we will have many new opportunities for pictures this year. That means tons of school related layouts! I love to commemorate my children’s school years. I like them to see the changes they … Continue reading

Tribute Page

Scrapbook tribute pages can be created for a variety of occasions, including the first day of school. The simple layouts are designed to record milestones using materials that go beyond traditional scrapbook embellishments. For example, if you are putting together a tribute page documenting your child’s first day of school, you will want to use a few mementos that reflect the date, such as newspaper clippings or a magazine cover. You could also cut-out ads for school supplies or foods that you packed in your child’s lunchbox. Just be sure to include the price of the items, so that you … Continue reading

Post-Holiday Scrapbooking

In just a few hours, holiday celebrations will give way to hangovers, a home that needs a good cleaning, and kids who don’t want to go back to school on Tuesday. Not exactly prime scrapbooking material. Still, just because Christmas and New Year’s are over doesn’t mean you should neglect documenting the rest of the season. Winter brings with it a litany of lovely scrapbooking opportunities. For example, you could design a layout of your kids participating in outdoor winter activities, such as making snowmen, catching snowflakes on their tongues, skiing, sledding or having a huge snowball fight. Another option … Continue reading

Getting it Right

A couple of days ago I posted about the end-of-the-year scrapbook I am helping to make as thank you gift to for my daughter’s teacher. I got roped into volunteering for the job, but am not the one who is actually putting together the layouts; rather, my job is to collect a series of teacher or education-related quotes which be added to the pages as embellishments, borders or titles. I shared some of my favorites in a previous post, but just found out that most of them were too long. So, I’m back at it again. I decided to search … Continue reading

Scrapbooking Week in Review for August 13th-19th, 2007

The scrapbooking blog has always been one of the most popular blogs at families.com. That always makes me smile, since scrapbooking is probably one of my most favorite subjects in the world to talk about. I divide my time into sections so that I am equally sharing it with my family, my job (writing) and my scrapbooking. I often include my family in my scrapbooking endeavors for the simple reason that they love it too. Don’t forget to share those moments with your own families, and include your children in the layout making process. They aren’t professionals, but they will … Continue reading

Journaling Written By Hand

One of the most prized and protected possessions I have is the original handwritten letter from my biological mother after I had been contacted by her. I cherish it, and love looking at her beautiful handwriting. Another favorite item, cherished, is a card from when I was a little girl from my great grandmother. She wrote the sweetest card to a 6 year old little girl in her shaky handwriting, but it makes me smile each time I read it. The sight of a special someone’s familiar handwriting can warm the heart. But most of us really don’t like our … Continue reading

Scrapbook Magazines Everywhere

New scrapbooking publications and magazines are coming out every month. From new titles to just the latest issue of the well-known magazines. It seems you can never have enough either. I have a subscription to three, not to mention there are a few I get for free because I write for them. Are you surrounded by Scrapbook Magazines? Do they seem to be everywhere you look? On the kitchen table, the coffee table, next to your bed, by the bathtub, in your purse or diaper bag? If you are anything like myself or the typical scrapbooker, you probably have magazines … Continue reading
