Recording Festive Family Memories

For most families, food is a huge part of the holiday season. After all, it’s hard to have a seasonal celebration without consuming festive treats, from cookies to cranberries and all sorts of other goodies in between. What’s more, most clans have at least a few traditional dishes they make each December to share with loved ones. In our family, Christmas just wouldn’t be the same without my mom’s Cranberry Walnut Tart and Snowball cookies. In addition, prior to his passing, my grandfather would dutifully prepare a huge Prime Rib on Christmas Eve seasoned with his secret mix of spices. … Continue reading

Adding Color to Your Layouts

Is it too early to make a New Year’s resolution? As I look back at the scrapbooks I created in 2011, I’ve noticed that they lack color variations. I tend to use the same shades on different layouts. Whereas I am good at incorporating an array of embellishments, they tend to be in the same color family. Obviously, if you are creating a layout with a theme, such as high school graduation, and you are using your child’s school colors as the focus, then it makes sense to stick with the same hues. However, if you are designing a layout … Continue reading

Affordable Ways to Create Festive Layouts

Yesterday we received our first Christmas card of the season in the mail. Given that I have yet to even choose a family photo for our holiday greeting, receiving my friend’s annual newsletter was bittersweet to say the least. Still, I refuse to let her superior organizational skills get me down. Rather, I lovingly placed her Christmas card in a decorative holder in the shape of Santa’s sleigh where it will remain until I cut it up and use the pretty printed images in my holiday scrapbook. If you are looking for cheap and easy ways to add some festive … Continue reading

Card Scrapbook

According to a new study, traditional Christmas cards may soon go the way of VCRS and record players. Unity Marketing reports the percentage of people buying greeting cards for Christmas fell from 77 percent in 2005 to 73 percent in 2007 and to 62 percent in 2009, and with the growth of social media networking, that number is predicted to dip even lower in 2011. Experts in the greeting card industry blame social media platforms, such as Facebook, which allows people to stay up-to-date on an immediate basis. These days there is no longer the need to tuck an annual … Continue reading

Scrapping Holiday Family Fun

The holiday season provides a litany of opportunities to create memorable scrapbook layouts featuring your entire family, and I’m not just referring to the same ol’ boring page designs of people opening presents. Since most clans tend to gather for either Christmas or New Year’s Eve, don’t miss the chance to document and expand on your family’s favorite traditions. Forget about creating a chronological timeline of Christmas Day; rather, select a few standout events and tell the stories behind each. Some special seasonal layout ideas include: Caroling: You don’t have to participate in an elaborate Christmas caroling event around the … Continue reading

Adding Seasonal Touches to Scrapbooks

One step inside of a scrapbook supply shop during the month of December and you may be buried under an avalanche of Christmas-themed paper and embellishments. From Santa Claus and snowman stickers to candy cane stamps and angel-shaped die cuts, when it comes to finding ways to add holiday cheer to your seasonal scrapbook, you don’t have to look very hard to find merry materials. I am a huge fan of seasonal scrapbook stickers, rub-ons, and other page decorations; however, I also enjoy adding a little something extra to my Christmas layouts. One of the many types of filler I … Continue reading
