Scrapbook Challenges

What is the most difficult part of putting together a scrapbook layout? For some it’s finding just the right photos to tell a story. Others struggle to keep embellishments from taking over a design, while still others find it challenging to mix and match different scrapbook paper. For me, one of the toughest parts of creating a memorable page design is coming up with a really amazing title. In my opinion, page titles are an essential part of a layout. While some opt to skip titles all together, I think they make layouts so much easier to understand. After all, … Continue reading

Life’s Challenges May Present Business Opportunities

For many entrepreneurs, the inspiration for a business comes from having a need for something and being unable to fulfill that need with products or services that are currently available on the market. Food allergy information and allergy-friendly food product businesses are often created under these circumstances. Adjusting to life with a food allergy, whether it is your own or that of a child or other family member, can make you keenly aware of what is missing from your local supermarket shelves and even from specialty or health food stores. A number of people have started successful businesses that provide … Continue reading

Ad or Art Inspiration Challenges

In previous articles I have discussed how artwork, ads and other items are great inspirational pieces for your layouts. Sometimes it might be a mood or the setting, sometimes the colors used in the ad and sometimes it might even be the entire layout of the ad. I thought that perhaps that by seeing some examples of artwork created using an ad or piece of artwork as the inspiration, it might get you in the mood to try the same. Just as an extra thought, often when I am in a scrap rut, I will grab an ad that I … Continue reading

Biking from Alaska to Argentina: A Homeschooling Road Trip

If it wasn’t for a comment Nancy Sathre-Vogel left on one of my Pets articles I never would have known about the extraordinary undertaking she and her husband plan to make with their two boys and dog: a bicycle trip from Alaska to Argentina. (I for sure had to interview her about that!) Along the way she and her husband will be homeschooling their boys. I thought it would make an intriguing interview to post here. Courtney Mroch: On your website, you have a box encouraging teachers and homeschoolers to contact you for a “unique, dynamic way to help [their] … Continue reading

Saturday Layout Challenge – Inspirations

What a beautiful weekend we are having here in the Midwest. The sun is shining, the birds are singing and it is warm and spring like, finally! All of these nice sights made me start thinking about what inspires me. Why not create a layout about your favorite things that inspire you to be a better person, inspire you to create, inspire you to do whatever it is you do. I am a nature nut, so I tend to get inspired by almost anything outdoors. I thought it would be great if I created a layout showing some of my … Continue reading

Why Should I Participate in Scrapbooking Challenges

It seems that everywhere I look these days, scrapbooker’s are putting out challenges to other scrapbooker’s to try new and different things, make others think outside the box and expose them to valuable experiences. In fact there are entire blogs and we have a whole section dedicated to challenges. So why do scrapbooker’s participate in all of these challenges? And should you? This is absolutely up to you. But here are a few benefits from joining in on these challenges. Motivation – Most of us probably need a little push here and there to get caught up and stay caught … Continue reading

The Best Articles for Journaling on Your Layouts

Journaling has got to probably be one of my favorite parts of scrapbooking. I love being able to write words that express how I felt about an event, or how I am feeling about that person. My children love to read what I have written, and all in all journaling is inspirational and feels good. The scrapbooking blog has dozens of great articles dealing with journaling. I thought I’d round-up the best of the best and put them all in once place. The Scrapbook Journaling Process: Why It’s Important Can you remember your child’s first word or perhaps the emotions … Continue reading

The Fitness Blog Week in Review for February 3 – 9

Good morning and welcome to Saturday. Whew, am I glad it’s the end of the week! I’m tired. There are a lot of things going on in my life right now, some good, some great and some that are not as bad as they could be. I found out more about my own health condition this week and I scheduled my surgery. I also started substitute teaching in my school district this week and that was a tremendous lot of fun! We’ve managed to pack so much into this week and next week and the week after, that I am … Continue reading

First Presidency Message: Inspirational Thoughts from President Hinckley

This month’s First Presidency message was available online yesterday, February first. I encourage you to head over and look at it. And if looking is too difficult, the church has allowed us the option of listening to both the home and visiting teaching message. Since the layout of the website has changed, I’ll let you know that both messages are in the upper lefthand corner, under the picture of President Hinckley. President Hinckley, by the way, prepared the home teaching message for the month. Rather than a full-length article, it is a combination of inspirational thoughts taken from various addresses … Continue reading
